British punk singer is 'deported from America for impersonating Donald Trump'

Source: BBC

Peter Bywaters, of Peter & The Test Tube Babies, claims he was detained when he flew in for a festival.

He said he was interrogated for six hours by border control staff and shown photos of himself dressed up as Donald Trump on tour in Germany last year.

"I had only been there 30 seconds when the border control guard swung his screen round and said, 'Is this you?'."

He told the website Team Rock: "There in full view was a video from last year's German tour with me dressed as Donald Trump smoking a fake joint.

I highly doubt this story is true. Sounds a lot like other cases of attention seeker

the BBC is not reporting that Bywaters was refused entry for impersonating Trump.

It is reporting that Mr. Bywaters said that happened, along with US Customs statement that it didn't.

The article makes no claim to the veracity of either parties' version of events.

I'd guess there is more to the story. Like maybe he was already stinking drunk, possibly obnoxious.

Or maybe he couldn't speak English. Intelligibly.

unclear as CBP can ban artists. Remember Farley Mowat?

https://ww2.kqed.org/arts/2017/08/02/british-punk-singer-deported-from-sfo-allegedly-for-mocking-trump/

A Customs and Border Protection official has informed Entertainment Weekly that Peter Bywaters was turned around at SFO for having the wrong visa.

“The claim that he was refused entry to the United States because he mocked the president of the United States, that is absolutely not true,” CBP spokesman Jaime Ruiz said.

Ruiz said that Bywaters tried to enter the U.S. with a visitor’s visa. Because he was performing, he was required to have a P1 Visa. He also confirmed that the CPB has the authority to determine whether an artist’s work is entertainment or freedom of expression, or a legitimate threat to the United States.

LAist.com: Oh My Girl...an eight-member, all-girl K-pop group...were headed to the United States to shoot images for an album cover and to perform at an event on Saturday. Upon landing (in Los Angeles), however...the band's agency said immigration authorities searched the group's costumes and props, then decided to detain them..."Then, probably because of their young age, they seem to have mistaken them as sex workers," a statement from the(ir) agency said...(But) (t)hey...also...indicated there may have...been some problem with the band's visa...

It's very likely that OMG wouldn't be paid for the photoshoot, and were to be reimbursed rather than compensated for performing at the event. So my guess is, their agency believed that a tourist visa (as opposed to a work or performance visa) would be sufficient because they would only be there for the weekend and would not be turning a profit. As for the sex worker charge, well, Los Angeles in particular sure doesn't need to import any underage sex workers!

I suppose someone at the CBP could have a stick up their ass about anyone critical of Trump, but I don't buy that we're at the point in which the entire organization had been corrupted to the point of being the defender of Trump's fragile ego.
