FBI conducted predawn raid of former Trump campaign chairman Manafort's home

FBI agents raided the Alexandria home of President Trumps former campaign chairman late last month, using a search warrant to seize documents and other materials, according to people familiar with the special counsel investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.
Federal agents appeared at Paul Manaforts home without advance warning in the predawn hours of July 26, the day after he met voluntarily with the staff for the Senate Intelligence Committee. The search warrant was wide-ranging and FBI agents working with special counsel Robert S. Mueller III departed the home with various records.
The raid came as Manafort has been voluntarily producing documents to congressional committees investigating Russias interference in the 2016 presidential election. The search warrant indicates investigators may have argued to a federal judge they had reason to believe Manafort could not be trusted to turn over all records in response to a grand jury subpoena.
It could also have been intended to send a message to President Trumps former campaign chairman that he should not expect gentle treatment or legal courtesies from Muellers team.

The only way she can get any reaction from Daddy Dearest is by sitting on his lap and gyrating. Though I doubt that old cocktail wiener can move anymore.

I've never had to face any consequences before in my life, so why should I worry now? It's called 'just doing business.' Besides, they'd never come breaking into my house to get this stuff, would they? Don't they know WHO I AM?????"

(24,764 posts)A criminal and/or counterintelligence investigation too hastily conducted can, and often will, allow the criminals to get off scot-free.
I want to see a thorough investigation that would put away the Toxic Tangerine and his minions.

(12,448 posts)I'm as anxious as anyone to get this done ASAP, but it's important in an investigation this complex and involving so many people to make sure all the dots are firmly connected and everything triple checked. Like anything else, it's much easier to do it right the first time than to clean up mistakes.

(5,586 posts)Started being bandied about, I would've had a team of lawyers in his house taking an inventory of everything. If it was in any way incriminating of anything, it would've been gone / destroyed / held by his attorneys.
He's had months to prepare for this. Did he think Mueller wasn't going to show up and ask him anything?
And even if there was something, Trump can pardon him and make it go away. Like Reagan did.

There are a couple reasons the special counsel's expanding Russia investigation might be so interested in former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort that FBI agents showed up at his door before dawn, unannounced, searched his home and seized documents, as The Washington Post reports.
