Democrats: Texas GOP wants to make women buy rape insurance to cover abortions

Source: Texas Tribune

TEXAS TRIBUNE
09 AUG 2017 AT 09:30 ET

Texas women would have to pay a separate health insurance premium to get coverage for non-emergency abortions — what an opponent dubbed “rape insurance” — under a bill given early approval by the Texas House on Tuesday.

House Bill 214 requires women to pay an additional insurance premium if they want their health plan to cover abortions performed outside of medical emergencies. It does not contain exceptions for instances of fetal abnormalities, rape or incest.

State Rep. John Smithee, R- Amarillo, who is the lead author of the bill, said opponents of abortion should not have to subsidize the procedure through their insurance plans.

. . .

House Democrats fought the proposal in a series of amendments, attempting to add exceptions for severe fetal abnormalities, ectopic pregnancies, rape, incest and the mental health of the mother. They also tried to remove a provision in the bill that prevented insurance companies from offering savings on premiums for the supplemental plan covering abortion — and add language that would put any of those savings into an account to fund rape kit testing.

would have to go through in order to "prove" she was raped in order to collect her insurance claim.
This is just, just, just BEYOND BELIEF. I can't believe the complete and utter idiocy and hate that this bill contains.

Men should have to pay for "Sperm Release Waste". So that every time they release sperm and an egg is NOT fertilized all those little swimmers were totally wasted, right? They swam for naught.

Poor little guys. Brought forward only to die.

Maybe men should have to collect ejected sperm and give them a funeral.

I'm watching "Handmaid's Tale" and my tolerance is on a thin edge right now. We have the remnants of the Puritans telling 45 that God brought him forth to lead us.

And Mike and his Dominionists are panting on the sidelines. Christians-- 2,000 years of "Any day now!" Lord, protect me from your followers.

My tolerance for ignorant "domination" has reached an end point. These damned insecure, spineless, weak brained GOP males (and any across the aisle counterpart) are an acute malignant stain on their gender.
It is all about control. Not religious purity, not morality, not pro-life, not compassion in any way for the unborn.
They are scared-assed and cowards.
They want to subjugate, penalize and humiliate females who dare to be smart, strong and independently living their lives out from under the oppressive thumbs of those scared, immature, insecure males who cannot function in an intelligent society of gender equality.

So yeah. Make THEM pay.

Not sure it's legal, find a woman legislator in Texas to write the bill, then proceed.

Who's going to do that? The religious fanatics, the neanderthal women haters, maybe those women who support those fools?

You can't shame fools, who aren't ashamed of what they do, and who seem to have the majority of the voters on their side!

As long as voters support them and these archaic laws against women, shaming them isn't going to do one bit of good!

to rape women without being held accountable. These male pieces of shit have just told a generation it is okay to go out and rape and pillage, they don't have to have any sense of decency or restraint. WTF is wrong with these people?

I'd like to personallt thank all the self hating women that allow this shit to happen.

It is a more rampant problem than the Opioid crisis, (Not to downplay the severity and suffering caused by that issue).

When, oh when, can we get these idiots out of office! Following Republican logic, I object to people carrying guns outside their homes, therefore I should not have to pay for insurance that covers surgery for people like the Texas guy who tried to shoot an armadillo in the middle of the night and ended up shooting himself when the bullet ricocheted and hit him in the face. Nor should I pay for Viagra if I have a moral objection. And I believe that every Republican in the Texas legislature should have to give written approval for any man to have a vasectomy since they deny the same reproductive decisions to women.
