Neo-Nazi group moves to 'Dark Web' after website goes down

Source: Reuters

AUGUST 15, 2017 / 9:44 AM / 8 MINUTES AGO

Jim Finkle

TORONTO (Reuters) - Neo-Nazi website the Daily Stormer, which helped organize a gathering in Virginia on Saturday that turned violent, moved to the so-called Dark Web on Tuesday because its registration to use the open internet was revoked.

GoDaddy Inc and Alphabet Inc's Google canceled Daily Stormer's Internet registration on Monday, saying the group had violated terms of service, which prohibit clients from using their sites to incite violence.

Andrew Anglin, the founder of Daily Stormer, did not respond to requests for comment.

Supporters of Daily Stormer took to Twitter on Tuesday to tell people they could gain access to the website on the Dark Web, a portion of the Internet that is not indexed by popular search engines. It can only be seen with a special browser, which hides the identity and location of the users.

But if there's a virus that bricks the computer of anyone accessing the site so badly they have to buy a new machine, someone needs to plant that virus on Daily Stormer's server.

Mentions how the neoNazis must pay with blood, iirc.

That's worrisome. I was just kinda hoping they'd the white weasel's site. Then again, Anonymous put out that video warning the Russians against interfering in our elections. Not sure they did much good against that threat. Still, you never know.

It provides convenient, one-stop shopping for them for all of their torture porn, human trafficking, and meth.

Hides identities? Well, I'll be.

Well, that's where I'D go, if I were trying to start a revolution and take over the country. But far fewer people will hear of them or be able to join because of their "dark" location. Guess it'll be by word of mouth.

dark web = .onion addresses only accessible with Tor

If you read that web page thoroughly, you'll learn a ton. Probably more than you ever want to know.

a couple of years ago and got a lot of pedophiles put into the pokey.

Other people who use Tor have been government, itself, when it wants to cover its tracks, plus protesters in countries with rigid web control.

I mean, I know it's something "dark" and underground.

But what is it technically, in non-technical terms of course, please. Is it a direct connection to the web without using a host??????

To see those, you have to use Tor

https://www.torproject.org/projects/torbrowser.html.en

https://www.torproject.org/about/overview.html.en

So it's easy to see if you use Tor, but the problem is, the NSA and FBI and other agencies monitor Tor. The assumption is, if you're using Tor, you're up to no good (which is true in some cases). Some people use it in repressive countries to be able to communicate, and if you're just plain paranoid, you use it. It's VERY slow but, pretty anonymous.

because you can't get there through Google or other search engines. It's used by people who want to be secretive and anonymous: criminals, terrorists, child predators, etc.
