Cutting Obamacare payments would boost insurance premiums by 20 percent, CBO says

Source: Politico

By POLITICO STAFF 08/15/2017 02:19 PM EDT

Insurance premiums for Obamacare plans would rise 20 percent next year and people in small pockets of the country wouldn't have any insurance options if President Donald Trump scraps a key insurance subsidy, according to a new analysis from the CBO.

Trump has repeatedly threatened to pull the Obamacare subsidy — worth an estimated $7 billion this year — that helps insurers lower out-of-pocket health care costs for low-income customers. Trump must decide by early next week whether to make next month's payment.

The nonpartisan CBO also found eliminating the payments would increase the deficit by $194 billion over a decade because of higher spending on premium subsidies.

By ROBERT PEAR and THOMAS KAPLAN AUG. 15, 2017

WASHINGTON — Premiums for the most popular health insurance plans would shoot up 20 percent next year, and federal budget deficits would increase by $194 billion in the coming decade if President Trump carries out his threat to end certain subsidies paid to insurance companies for the benefit of low-income people, the Congressional Budget Office said Tuesday.

That's how these right wing bastards play the game, destroy and then blame. We need to get the word out that 45* is causing premiums to skyrocket.

First thing I thought of. He will just say this all a part of waiting for Obamacare to collapse. He'll then release a statement something like "see? I told you it would all collapse, you should have listened and passed that shiny new improved healthcare bill when you had the chance". And the audience that MUST hear the truth that its actually his fault, will be tuned in to Fox News where they will dutifully omit this little fact.
