GOP prepares to file lawsuit against Holder
Source: NBC News
House Republicans will file suit in an effort to compel Holder to release documents associated with the failed "Fast and Furious" gun-walking operation.
"We'll be filing a civil case during the break," Issa told NBC, "We will expect a day in court before a federal judge, which we have a 100 percent chance that the judge will hold that these documents should be delivered."
During negotiations between House Republicans and Holder in June, the White House invoked executive privilege on the documents Issa had requested for his investigation. Issa says that a federal judge should find that executive privilege does not apply to the documents he is requesting.
"The idea that you would withhold based on some executive privilege the documents related to a cover up of a crime is absurd, but that's the claim that the attorney general is hiding behind," Issa said.

What is shameful is the lengths the GOP will go to try and destroy the Presidency of Barrack Obama, which amounts to an attempt at 21st century lynching.

(4 posts)To those repliers who snidely say "It's a waste of time" and call Issa an asswipe for filing the case, I dare you to say that to the family of murdered Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, who was killed by one of these guns after the whole scheme went awry.
It sounds like you think that Fast and Furious is no big deal. Maybe it would be if one of your family members was the one who was killed.
I work for Homeland Security, and Agent Perry was my fellow law enforcement officer. His death hurts - a lot. The shameful part is that the next time one of us gets killed defending our country, including those of you who think it's no big deal, it could be me, or any of my fellow officers.
You seem to forget that Agent Perry died in this case because of the incompetence of the Obama Justice Department. THAT's why it's so important to get to the bottom of this. Please remember that Watergate started out as nothing, too.
I'm not saying that Fast and Furious is another Watergate. I'm just saying that we won't know for sure until the Justice Dept stops stonewalling the request for legitimate documents.
To those of you who pooh poohed Issa's demands, all I can say is to have some respect for a man who died protecting all of us. He deserves nothing less.

(4 posts)Asshole? Very impressive of you. Is this how you discuss matters with those you disagree with?
Let me state that I most certainly do work for Homeland Security, starting in 1989 with U.S. Customs, now known as Customs and Border Protection. I've served under Democrats and Republicans. I worked at 6 WTC for 12 years, and was there during the bombing in 1993, as well as on 9/11. I've worn wiretaps and risked my life to collect evidence against those who would hurt our country and our citizens, regardless of their political leanings. So, I do take offense against those who would demean the death of one of my own. My job is to protect all Americans, not just Democrats or Republicans.
Whether or not there are too many guns in Arizona may be a legitimate question, but it has nothing to do with the issue at hand. That issue is the fact that Agent Perry wasn't killed by ANY one gun. He WAS murdered by a gun that the Justice Dept sold to Mexico and subsequently lost track of. The problem is that Mr. Holder has told different stories about what happened during F&F, and that has created doubt in my agency about the Attorney General's ability to lead the Justice Dept.
I hope that you can understand the difference between these 2 issues. And whether you like it or not, this IS what happened, and the morale at DHS has suffered because of it. That's not good for America.
You want to call me a troll? Go right ahead. I may not agree with your point of view, but I'm always interested in other opinions, even if they are different from my own. I do enjoy reading the DU, even if I rarely comment.
However, this subject is something that hits much too close to home, and for you to show such ignorance (I'll assume that do not work in law enforcement) and callousness towards his death is shameful. Perry's wife is now a widow for the worst of all reasons, and I pray that MY wife does not end up a widow for those same reasons.
You want to disagree with me and call me names? That's your right. But, you will NOT besmirch the name of my fellow officer. THAT is uncalled for, and totally disrepectful towards his fellow officers, including me, and especially his family.
You owe Agent Perry's family an apology.
Jessy169
(602 posts)No, just with assholes. I don't believe you for one second that you work for Homeland Security. Your lies and bullshit stories are a cut-and-paste of the totally fabricated Republican "story", and the same BS that all the whackos are posting over on Yahoo. If you actually work for Homeland Security, you wouldn't be here posting your garbage now, would you. I do disagree with the Republican-sponsored and false point of view. I am not callous toward Perry's death -- but the Republican politicians trying to score political points off of Perry's death most definitely ARE callous toward Perry's death. Gotta hand it to you, you're a cut above most right-wing whackos in your writing and spelling ability, pretty decent grammar too, but otherwise you're just the same absurd pack of lies and misinformation. I'm guessing there is a decent chance that you work directly under Karl Rove's watchful eye.

(4 posts)Jessy and the others,
You can choose not to believe me, and I don't know how to prove to you that I am, but I truly am a federal worker, who is lucky enough to be covered under the old CSRS retirement plan.
Just because I "actually work for Homeland Security", why wouldn't I post my opinion? That statement makes absolutely no sense. I do have some rights left as a citizen who is a federal employee, don't I.
I am personally not very interested in Republican or Democratic politics concerning F&F, although I have my own opinions about politics. I accept that politics (Dem and Rep) have always been part of my job, and will continue to do so. Let's face it - both sides do it, but we're not politicians, just regular folks.
I agree that all politicians try to score political points an every situation that they can. If you want to call Republicans callous for trying to score points, go right ahead. But your comments about Perry's death were just as callous, and that's troubling because I assume you're not a politician, just a regular guy like me. Politicians make a living being callous at times. I expect more from average people like you. We're not running for re-election.
My main interest is that one of my brothers died needlessly. And it could happen to someone else - or me - again. That's scary since this truly is a matter of life and death, and there needs to be accountability for Perry's death, and there has been none as of now. And since this happened under Holder's watch, he needs to be transparent (I really hate that word. What happened to honest?) about what really happened.
I'm not used to personal insults when trying to discuss this issue. Is that really necessary? I've been on other websites where we agreed to disagree without being called an asshole. Feel free to call me that, but that doesn't change the fact that my main point about Perry's death is true, regardless of your irrelevant rebuttal about Arizona guns.
I do thank you for the backhanded compliment about my grammar. That's my Brooklyn, NY public school education.
