Pence compares Trump to Roosevelt

Vice President Mike Pence compared President Donald Trump to former President Teddy Roosevelt, who believed white people were “the forward race.” Speaking on Tuesday, just days after violence at a white supremacist rally left one person dead, Pence made the unfortunate comparison between the U.S.’ 26th president and Trump.

“In President Donald Trump, the United States once again has a president whose vision, energy and can-do spirit is reminiscent of President Teddy Roosevelt,” Pence said in comments reported by Guardian correspondent Ben Jacobs.

“Then, as now, we have a builder of boundless optimism, who seeks to usher in a new era of shared possibility,” Pence said, “Then, as now, we have a leader who sees things not just for what they are but for what they could be.”

The vice president’s decision to compare the president to Roosevelt, whose views on Native American and African people are well documented, comes at a time when Trump himself is facing criticism over his failure to denounce white supremacists and neo-Nazis.

Franklin Roosevelt was on the dime because of his founding the March of Dimes in 1938 for polio treatment and vaccination.

This writer is so proud of his own ability to use sixty-four-dollar words (not something tRump can do):

What happened between December 7, 1941, and September 11, 2001? The United States degenerated into decadence: internal moral rot and decay, the destroyer of nations.

In 2016, the brilliant, puissant, highly successful multibillionaire Donald Trump, who loved America and the American people, recognized the problem for what it is and undertook to reverse the decadence and save the United States.

I just don’t understand how this can be happening. President Trump is an exceptionally intelligent man. He is not a fool by any standard. It is appalling the actions of Sessions and now McMaster. Surely our Great President won’t let this continue.

Only one problem. Scientists and engineers are intelligent so two factors apply: 1) They avoid politics, 2) They have lots of choices in life.

crashed the economy, fighting against any taxes against the wealthy until it was too late and fighting against the efforts of women like Ida B. Wells, who had spent her entire adult life trying to get anti-lynching legislation passed, as his term was during the Jim Crow era.

Hoover's Presidency represented the embryonic stages of what would eventually become the "modern" Republican party that we see today - the "business-oriented/personal responsibility only/civil rights are unimportant party"... which caused blacks to leave the party in droves to vote for Democrats (like FDR). Eventually Dixicrats left the Democratic party in the '60s to join the GOP.

I've been comparing trump to Roosevelt since he entered the primary. Teddy was every bit the insane narcissist that trump is, but his narcissism was focused on issues in a way that actually helped the country when he acted on his insanity. And his enemies were monopolistic capitalists who were hurting the Roosevelt businesses. So, when he struck out for revenge he ended up helping working people as part of the deal. He also understood that to be beloved you need to *help people* and more than anything else a narcissist wants to be beloved.

That vs. trump whose enemies are the black man who dared to be a competent president and a female comedian. And whose lashing out has the chance of actually, literally, destroying the country, or the world.

This is likely to be your next President - no campaign, no analysis of his past failures or divisive thought processes, his sole qualification is that he has been hand-picked by Trump and has been the perfect lap-dog to his master looking at him with adulation and treating his every word as though they are PS's to the 10 commandments.

It might be sacrosanct to state that this 4 year business is as out-of-date as Prohibition or Carpetbaggers, but continuing on the same path is generally unwise if you find you're most definitely on the wrong path.; wrong forest even.

(In the UK a few years back we had a change to fixed-term general elections whereas for the last 200-odd years the date was chosen by the Prime Minister. Not a peep of protest. Hmmm.
Not comparing the 2 countries, but this US devotion to every dot and comma of this Constitution brought you this monster.)

I would be willing to bet that Teddy Roosevelt would not want drilling in the national parks - the parks being precious to him. I even bet he would not be pushing subsidies for non economic coal -- that will lead to move mountain tops removed. I would be on shaky ground, but I bet that he would not have pulled out of the Paris Accord.

He and the rough riders who followed him would not think that a man with a bone spur had really suffered his own personal Vietnam because he engaged in unprotected, prolificate sex.
