(CNN) —
More than 200 Liberty University alumni have signed on to a Facebook group proposing they return their degrees in protest of University President Jerry Falwell Jr.'s unwavering support of President Donald Trump.

The movement follows a tweet by Falwell that applauded Trump's response to the recent events in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Heather Heyer, 32, was killed Aug. 12 in Charlottesville when a car plowed into a crowd of counterprotesters gathered to oppose a "Unite the Right" rally of white nationalist and other right-wing groups. Nineteen others were injured in the incident. Trump blamed "both sides" for the violence.

The alumni Facebook group organized for the movement has grown to 202 members and counting since it was launched Thursday. The members of the group are asked to mail their diplomas to Falwell's office on the same day, Sept. 5.

For most Universities, Alumni is a protected class and is treated as their "cash cow". In most Universities, that could get the president fired.

I wonder if they could legally hold any future transcripts hostage? After all, even if the degrees were returned, those classes were already aid for and the curriculum completed successfully.

No just a symbolic gesture by returning the actual printed degree. Doesn't mean anything

Shitty degrees from a for-profit televangelist faux "college" (edit: sorry, it's a "university" now, still deserving of air-quotes) which speaks volumes about each attendee's reasoning skills and competence. That may also explain why they think "returning" their diplomas will mean more than a bucket of warm spit.

They elected to go to Liberty, which was founded by Jerry Fallwell Sr. to be a fundy Baptist university. They could have gone to a real college or university. I’d never hire an alum of that school. Too fucking bad for them.
