Ohio Judge Shot Outside Courthouse in Apparent Ambush-Style Attack

An Ohio judge was shot in an apparent ambush-style attack on his way into a local courthouse on Monday morning, according to Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and NBC News affiliate WTOV.

Around 8 a.m., Judge Joseph J. Bruzzese, Jr. was attacked by a suspect as he made his way into the Jefferson County Courthouse in Steubenville, City Manager James Mavromatis told reporters.

Bruzzese was walking through a narrow alley toward the courthouse when the shots were fired, Mavromatis said.

A buddy of mine was a judge and started carrying after some whakadoodle killed the husband of a judge and her 90 year old mother here in Chicago. The murderer was pissed over a medical malpractice case.

In California, there are approximately 1826 California judges/justices (not counting the Federal Courts). As of 2015, there were 316 concealed carry permits issued in California to judges. So we are talking about around 17%, maybe lower, if judge pro tems and Federal judges are included in those 316 permits.

17. Why is it a problem if judges carry firearms?

They deal with terrible, violent people all day, every day. If someone's boyfriend, husband, father, whatever wants to kill them, they need to be able to defend themselves.
Some judges are self-important assholes, some are good public servants, doing a thankless job. None of them want to die because a rapist's dad has a beef.

9. It's Steubenville. There's always something more under the surface.

It's a small town in the middle of nowhere, so it's easy to forget what a mess their legal/political system is.

But this came out during the rape case:
- This judge is brothers with the town's major attorney. They were law partners before the judge got elected.
- The partnership paid for the now district attorney to go to law school.
- The now district attorney is married to the chief of police.
- The now district attorney used to be the hospital administrator in charge of awarding contracts. - The then-administrator gave the partnership the contract for handling malpractice suits before they gave her money for law school. The partnership also handles malpractice suits on from the other side -- a distinct conflict of interest.
- The now district attorney is the mother of one of the men accused of rape and distribution of the video, and transporting a minor across state lines. It took her weeks to realize she had a conflict of interest and recuse.
- The partnership also got one of their associates into the Prosecutor's office through some less than ethical politics. The former associate then paid the partnership for "assistant prosecutor" jobs. (Which pay far better, at hourly rate, than an elected, career prosecutor.)
- Two of the partners are on the board of elections; the DA was on the school board (against OH law), and they've got marriage and business ties to all of the courts, the municipal board, school board and elections board.

The WHY of this shooting is going to be interesting.

Also an hour south of former Rep Trafficant's old district. Not surprised judges carry guns, it's in a part of the state where shotguns are an integral part of some weddings. And divorces. And they're good with that.

15. LOOK..Not many are more justified, than I, in want or need

to utilize my 2nd Amendment right, to correct manifest injustice - by a loud, forceful, dynamic.

My own attorney emailed me threats to "back off" or else; and then my daughter was abducted, my career destroyed and my life savings taken from my children.

My co-worker/ warrior against manifest injustice had to shoot/kill an assassin, after he was threatened; and he still wound up dead.

On top of that, federal prosecutors use FBI, still threatening me, instead of indicting Sachs & Bain Cap.

Judges laugh and say they dont care I'm "insubstantial"

But shooting one of them buries the cause and cases; and makes a martyr out of assholes.

Better that you cause them to shoot/ martyr you.

For you take out 1 asshole corrupt, there are dozens more, who are ready, willing, and able - to take their place.

16. Judge was presiding over a wrongful-death lawsuit the attacker had filed

Nathaniel Richmond shot Judge Joseph Bruzzese outside the Jefferson County Courthouse before Bruzzese returned fire. A probation officer shot and killed Richmond. Bruzzese was hospitalized.

Bruzzese was presiding over a pending wrongful-death civil case Richmond filed after his mother died in a house fire, and he was to preside over a hearing scheduled for next Monday. Police said Monday they are familiar with Richmond, who pleaded guilty to assault and attempted murder for a drive-by shooting in 2002. Richmond was sentenced to five years in prison, the Herald-Star reported.

Two weeks before Monday’s shooting, Richmond’s son Ma’lik was denied one year of football eligibility by Youngstown State University because of his high-school rape conviction in 2013. Prosecutor Jane Hanlin said Bruzzese had no role in Richmond’s rape case.
