Trump nominee Sam Clovis: 'As far as we know' homosexuality's a choice, 'logical' LGBT protections c

Story highlights

Clovis has argued that homosexuality is a choice and that the sanctioning of same-sex marriage could lead to the legalization of pedophilia.
A USDA spokeswoman told CNN: "The Supreme Court settled the issue in 2015."

(CNN)Sam Clovis, Donald Trump's pick to be chief scientist for the Department of Agriculture, has argued that homosexuality is a choice and that the sanctioning of same-sex marriage could lead to the legalization of pedophilia, a CNN KFile review of Clovis' writings, radio broadcasts, and speeches has found.

Clovis made the comments between 2012 and 2014 in his capacity as a talk radio host, political activist, and briefly as a candidate for US Senate in Iowa. His nomination has drawn criticism from Senate Democrats, who argue his lack of scientific background makes him unqualified for the USDA post overseeing science.

Clovis has repeatedly argued that the science on homosexuality is unsettled and that "LGBT behavior" is a choice. The American Psychological Association has said that while there is no scientific consensus on the causes of sexual orientation, "most people experience little or no sense of choice about their sexual orientation."
...................................

Writing in an op-ed for the local conservative blog Iowa Republican in April 2011, Clovis argued science of being LGBT was unsettled and if being gay was genetic, then other people genetically-disposed like left-handed people should receive constitutional protections as well.........................

Being gay is inborn.

Being a fat swine is a choice.

Trump does this on purpose to anger minorities and to harm them. Right now the president of the USA is trying to kill over 100 million Americans by my last count.

Choice or "born that way" ... who cares? You are what you are, you do what you do, you love who you love. Consenting adults is all that matters.

And it's precisely because ... this asshole does make a somewhat valid point, albeit from a purely rhetorical point of view.

What I mean by that is ... yes ... IF the ONLY justification needed for some behavior, ANY behavior ... to be 'legalized' ... is that the person is 'born that way' ... then by logical extension, if it's ever shown that pedophilia, or being a homicidal maniac, or always driving your car with your accelerator pressed to the floor, or WHATEVER ... is a 'genetic condition' ... then we'd be obliged as a society to make that behavior legal for such people ...

IF that were the sole justification for the legality of same-sex relations, he'd be 'right'. IOW, that point IS, as he says, a 'logical extension of (that particular) thought'.

Ergo, I always say ... the FAR MORE important 'point' ... is that as long as same-sex relations (just like hetero-sex relations) involves consenting adults (or similarly-aged youth) ... there's nothing inherently 'wrong' about it! Why should gay people have to prostrate themselves to the hetero-majority, essentially reduced to blubbering 'bu...bu...but...you know, it's really not my fault, I was born this way!'.

I say: fuck that!

Don't get me wrong, I very much believe that the vast majority of people who practice same-sex relations were 'born inclined to do so', that's really not WHY ... say, gay marriage and/or sex ... should be 100% legal. It's because it's a free country and it's nobody else's damn business who we marry or sleep with, and it harms nobody else.

Pedophilia ... does.

So where assholes like Clovis go 'way wrong', is that even if it does turn out people are 'born pedo', we as a society will not be obliged to condone nor allow it ... based on our previous collective decision about grown-ups in same-sex relations. THAT ... is a bullshit argument.

that's really irrelevant. As you say, consenting adults is all that matters, choice or not.

as much as possible, as stupidly as possible, and believe in insanity.

Helping the allies win WW2 wasn't enough to prevent chemical castration of Alan Turing for his horrible crimes of being homosexual. Some people want to take us back to that level of greatness.

The homo/transphobia and heterosexism of this administration is often overlooked, but it is quite prevalent.
