Mnuchin's wife mocks woman over wealth

Story highlights

Treasury Sec. Steve Mnuchin's wife posted an image on Instagram
The post has been deleted

(CNN)Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin's wife Louise Linton apologized Tuesday after sustained backlash for a now-deleted Instagram post touting her wealth and her subsequent reply belittling a commenter.

"I apologize for my post on social media yesterday as well as my response. It was inappropriate and highly insensitive," Linton said in a statement from her publicist.

Monday's post began with a glamorous photo of Linton stepping off an official government plane on a trip to Kentucky with her husband, who was there to discuss tax reform with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and visit Fort Knox.

Dressed in all white and carrying a handbag and silk scarf, the Scottish-born actress and producer tagged a series of luxury designers, including Hermes, Roland Mouret, Tom Ford and Valentino.

I am sure the WH or Treasury PR people came down on her hard to do so. I don't give her credit after reading about her ugly ugly published book from her (short) time in Africa.

As terrible as that sounds, it also appears large swathes of the memoir are completely fabricated, based more on stereotypes of Africa than any experience of Linton’s.

Titled “In Congo’s Shadow,” the book details Linton’s gap year in 1999 during the Second Congo War, and attracted criticism after a excerpt ran in The Telegraph in 2016. In the book, the blonde “anomaly in darkest Africa” describes in terrifying detail how she was almost raped a killed by machete-wielding Hutu rebels:

“Gunshots echoed through to bush and seemed to be getting closer. I tried to face up to the possibility that my life was over,” she writes in one passage. “If I were discovered in my bolthole, I would be raped. I would be cut down. Smirking men with deadened eyes would brutalise me before casting me aside like a rag doll.” “Because I was a young white woman with a British passport I felt particularly vulnerable,” the actress explains.

She also describes an orphan-girl with HIV — a “smiling gap-toothed child with HIV whose greatest joy was to sit on my lap and drink from a bottle of Coca-Cola” — that she cared for during these intense moments.

And people wonder why some want to tear down Confederate flags and statues that commemorate abject racists. Drumpf has surrounded himself with these types. The WH is infested with them. The people of this nation have been infested with them too and we have seen them come out of their slime pits. And generations of them have passed on these stereotypes, many of them hatched in Europe, such as the nonsense that this idjit has spewed, throughout this nation's history.

any woman who could marry a known predatory operator like munchkin has to have a few screws disengaged.

Same goes for iwanna and her slumlord gangster hubby.

Is she apologizing for being a spoiled, entitled parasite? Because that is her "offense". The fact she showed the whole world and embarrassed the president is what she apologized for, but not her attitude that remains.

....... I won't do it!! I'm not apologizing to anyone.

Oh and by the way you pay more in taxes than those that work for a living. GOOD! Hopefully the day will come when you are paying 10 times what you pay now. And there will still be people who work 10 time harder than you and still pay more than their fair share.

Spoiled rotten greedy poor excuse for a human being.

Have a nice day!

you Trump voters and Republican faithful. Her reply is what she thinks of you and the rest of the Republican cabal thinks of you.

Hell, it's what she thinks of all of us really getting up going to work, paying our bills, just trying to survive while her husband puts people out of their homes. It doesn't bother me all that much because I already know they hate me out of hand.

Eh, shouldn't bother they'll never believe that the thieves they voted for hate them too. That's why we will never be able to get anything done.

Also, Jenni Miller (the woman who was basically "poor-shamed" for pointing out Linton's outrageous and disgusting "let them eat cake" behavior) was on Ari Melber today, promoting a go-fund-me-type charity she started for a friend who had a stroke recently (whose insurance refused to pay for recommended therapy). One of the guests, who happened to be Sherrod Brown's wife, commented that Ms. Miller acted more like a true public servant than Mnuchin's wife.
