As Harvey's waters rise, so do panic levels, rescuer says
Source: CNN
(CNN) As Harvey continues dumping rain on East Texas and the waters there continue to rise, people are starting to panic, rushing rescue boats and even shooting at them if they don't stop, said one volunteer rescuer.
Clyde Cain, of the Cajun Navy, a Louisiana-based rescue force that gained fame during Hurricane Katrina, said in one instance, a boat broke down, and while the crew sought shelter in a delivery truck, people tried to steal the inoperable boat.
"They're making it difficult for us to rescue them," he said. "You have people rushing the boat. Everyone wants to get in at the same time. They're panicking. Water is rising."
Because of the hostile responses, the Cajun Navy has been forced to halt some rescue attempts, Cain said.

Trump damn sure better stay away from Houston.
Tomorrow will be 4 days.

Beyond the national guard.....when anarchy exists everyone loses..(except the shooters, and often they lose too)

(33,982 posts)Still. The media thrives on the bad. It bleeds it leads, etc.
Remember how the media exaggerated the FUCK out of human behavior at Katrina.
Send what you can to help, trust in our basic nature. Humans aren't all bad. Not even half bad.

They'll probably meet in secret with some officials in a building for a photo op and some speeches. Then they'll do a fly-over maybe.

It was completely false.
But the stories of NoLA PD gunning down AA survivors crossing bridges to escape NoLa were real.
I don't doubt that people are in panic mode.
Guns just make it worse.

(8,760 posts)home of dragging deaths......
I wouldn't want to go there under the best of circumstances.
My wife and I were driving through east Texas a few years ago and stopped at a restaurant.
A local "judge" was there eating with some fawning minions....I overheard his "conversation" about the way he operated as a judge.
The way that he spoke about minorities was no different than Arpaio .
When those people panic, I can see them behaving badly.

(37,648 posts)It's not like "east Texas," which is Beaumont and going north (Jasper, etc.). Jasper is where they dragged that poor black man to death, beheading him.
Houston has a lot of bubbas, no doubt about it. But it has a large Hispanic and Af American population. Big cities - minorities gravitate to them for the job opportunities. But the burbs there can be mainly white, while some are mainly Hispanic, etc.
Beaumont, surprisingly, has a very large Af. American population, yet it is very discriminatory, is my understanding. The KKK is alive & well in the Beaumont area, is what I've heard.

(8,760 posts)....so that is why I jumped to that response.
It was based on my experience in actual "East Texas"
I grew up in the Houston area....there were plenty of racists there as well,
but the people that I saw in east texas were scarier.

(60,010 posts)sad to say, that is an impossibly low number.
Worse yet, many homeless and undocumented people may be unidentifiable by the time the water goes down enough.
also sad....gonna be a lot of livestock piled up along fence lines.
