Russians Flock to Trump Properties to Give Birth to U.S. Citizens

Source: Daily Beast

While Trump rails against U.S.-born children of undocumented immigrants, his Florida properties have become a playground for birth tourists from Russia’s upper crust. The Daily Beast has discovered several companies are advertising rentals in Trump properties to expectant Russian parents. While the Trump Organization does not directly profit from subleases of privately owned condos, it does benefit from Russian patronage of the nearby Trump International Beach Resort. (The Trump Organization did not return requests comment.)

Many of the companies that cater to Russian birth tourists advertise their services openly and warn no one will get in trouble as long as they don’t lie on immigration paperwork.

The Florida Trump properties are convenient options for wealthy Russians who can afford it. They are notorious for being investment properties for Russia’s hyper-wealthy, a safe place to store savings in U.S. dollars. And birth tourism companies offer Trump apartments as part of packages costing upwards of $75,000.

SVM-MED, a Miami birth tourism company that also boasts outposts in Moscow and Kiev, offers three tiers of packages to its clients, with the top two advertising lodging in Trump Towers. The most expensive package from costs $84,700 for a Trump Tower II apartment with a gold-tiled bathtub and chauffeured Cadillac Escalade or Mercedes Benz.

From what the article says, these are typically three-month stays.

This gets US citizenship for these Russian families' children, "a shot at financial aid at U.S. schools and easier access to jobs in the U.S." -- and after the child turns 21, he or she can apply for family reunification to get parents and non-citizen siblings greencards.

makes it an international conflict of interest, and somewhere, somewhere in this beaten-down country there must be a lawyer with enough decency and honor to take it to court to stop it.

by claiming they couldn't be US citizens despite being born here. There were also efforts to screw over Native Americans and Latinos and other minorities who were just not white enough for the racists who believed US citizens have European heritage.

Millions of children of legally documented immigrants and political refugees have benefited from this law. You might be talking to one online right now.

I would like to keep the amendment but they could pass a law with some sort of residency requirement for the parents to avoid abuse.

But we can't go back to the old white power ways. Diversity is good for America. There was a time when even Reagan and other prominent Republicans wanted new American citizens. Citizenship is a good thing for our country.

Chinese people do it even more in my anectodotal experience. Summer camp was loaded with kids that had been born here, raised in China, and who came to the US every summer. Even met a couple of Vietnamese kids that were doing the same. Every country has super rich that do what they want. Think about the job it takes to come from a 3rd world country and live in a $500/night hotel for 2 months. The summer camp tuition alone was almost $9k.

why are they worried about financial aid for college is the question. I can understand they're taking advantage of the loophole in the system and having the child here to secure eventual US residency down the road. That needs to be changed.

and i'm sure there are others elsewhere who do the same. That said, this is a complete disgrace that idiot 45's properties are involved in such schemes. FBI needs to do something about these shady "birth tourism" businesses bucking the system. There needs to be law in place to prevent such things from happening. These babies need to be sent back with their parents' countries of origin.
