White House statements on Puerto Rico clash with ground reports

Source: cnn

Story highlights

Assessments differ on hospitals and whether they are 'fully operational'
The White House says aid and cash are 'on site,' but they are slow to reach residents

(CNN)Acting Homeland Security Secretary Elaine Duke faced harsh backlash .................................
..............................................

Duke's comments weren't the first time the White House's statements about the recovery effort contradicted ground reports. This week, federal officials and locals clashed on such issues as medical care facilities, aid shipments and the availability of cash.

Critics say the White House has been slow to respond and is portraying the situation in Puerto Rico as better than it really is. Here's a snapshot of what the White House is saying compared to what people there are seeing and experiencing.

.........................Speaking on CNN's The Situation Room on Thursday, Gupta said that many hospitals listed as operational had no satellite phones, no access to medications, and were unable to admit patients.........................

"We're seeing diesel fuel being promised for a few hours at a time as opposed to anything that's going to be more sustainable for them. And as you might imagine, it's very hard to run a hospital that way," he said. "It's hard to take care of patients if you say, 'Look, we have six hours of fuel left. We're not sure if we'll get more fuel after that.'".......................................

People carrying cash in a panicked society are more at risk but it is the only way to buy necessities.

The other problem they will have very soon is mosquito's. I just returned from spraying the inside of a flooded home with chlorine and the mosquito's were so thick I was glad to have a respirator because you would breath them in. Living in S.E. Texas we joke that our Texas swamp mosquito's can carry away small children, but there were enough that they could have carried my fat ass away if they could get to me.

On Bill Mahar they had a climatologist on that reported that my county, Jefferson County, Texas set the all time world record at 64 inches of rain. I just remember wondering if it would ever stop. Imagine the hardest rain you ever experienced except it goes for hours, slows for 30 minutes and goes for hours again and does that day and night for a few days.

The people of Puerto Rico have to be in panic mode. We were worried about getting a friend to dialysis, getting the medication I had to have by a certain day, and worrying if we had enough water. We had really stocked up too. In Puerto Rico they KNOW they will not be getting these things when they need them while we knew we would suffer only short term under crisis conditions.

It is not just Trump. The Republican leadership should be taking over the airwaves demanding action. We have more than one leader who can make things happen through other means at their disposal. It should not have to be entertainers sending their private jets to evacuate people. Commandeer other cruise ships and get the people to the mainland. Get the people out until things can be made habitable, we are a can do country!

Come 2018 we need to make the Republicans pay for all of what they have inflicted us with by leaving this very sick man in charge of our country just to try and repeal ACA and gift their Donors with trillions in tax cuts. We must start registering voters, checking registrations to avoid voter suppression tactics, and line up volunteers to watch everything election related.
