Trump: Las Vegas Shooting In Many Ways A Miracle Due To Police Response

Source: TPM

In brief comments Tuesday morning, President Donald Trump said that the deadly shooting in Las Vegas was in many ways a miracle because of the law enforcement response to the shooting.

Look, we have a tragedy. Were going to what happened in Las Vegas is in many ways a miracle. The police department has done such an incredible job, and well be talking about gun laws as time goes by, Trump told reporters outside the White House before traveling to Puerto Rico. But I do have to say how quickly the police department was able to get in was really very much of a miracle. Theyve done an amazing job.

Trump said that the police were able to quickly get into the hotel, however it took police a little over an hour from getting the first call about the shooting to breaching the gunmans hotel room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, according to reports from NBC News and Newsweek.

The mass shooting was the deadliest in U.S. history and left 59 dead and more than 500 others injured. The gunman opened fire on 22,000 people attending a music festival in Las Vegas from a room on the 32nd floor of a nearby hotel.

Christ on a cracker is Trump speaking about himself?

He was a sick man. A demented man, a lot of problems I guess." Trump.

He dedicates a golf trophy to those suffering in Puerto Rico and he talks about a miracle
in Las Vegas?

I agree with him. LE did well. With that many high rise windows to search for in Vegas, narrowing it down would be hard, very hard. Now sensors on windows to detect them opening or being broken? Might be a good legislative idea. Mobilizing a team after narrowing the site down. Lot goes into that. The hotels are huge properties. Not to mention the ambulances and other emergency vehicles sharing the roads...

You might pass that Window Sensor Legislation thing on to trump, though. He's always in need of yet another deflection maneuver.

The reason for a better police response is because of one thing only

There are so many mass shootings in this country they have to train and prepare cops and have special forces on standy by to deal with them

Everywhere in this country it's a fucking miracle, a cornucopia of violence

A miracle is water in to wine, loaves and fishes.

Blood drenched streets are not miraculous

You are one of say 10 cops at the event. Uniformed cops. Security out numbers LE but they are not cops and cannot communicate with police, they have their own channels . off duty cops with no radio.

You have a mass hysteria event on your hands. Bodies falling, and fences and exits overwhelmed. It spills out onto LV Blvd.

You have to deal with the wounded. People are dying in your arms. You have to call for backup, which is a ways away. SWAT teams need to be assembled. Traffic needs to be managed. All this takes a while to make happen. In the meantime, at the site, you need to manage traffic, see that emergency vehicles have access, and see too it that people aren't trampled, before backup arrives. All this while you are under fire. And while your at it, find the shooter, somewhere out of one of the 10,000 windows facing the event from ten high rise hotels.

Then backup, SWAT, traffic arrives, the site needs to be managed. In, out. Find the shooter, deploy to MB. Not a short drive to the building from LV Blvd. Then elevator. Never fast enough.

That's a lot to ask. It could have been a real problem in regards to mass hysteria, but that didn't happen.

has some issues with understanding social stuff. And I'm not defending his many crude, nasty comments, he is a pig. But additionally he seems to have trouble getting social things right that even your average pig understands. The "warm condolences" comment and this "miracle" comment...we know what he's trying to say and there's really nothing wrong with the underlying idea, but he is saying them completely wrong. Like many comments he makes they are just "off." Most of us would recognize that, but he doesn't see it. Curious what underlies that. I'm sometimes tempted to think it's his upbringing in a bubble, but then I realize that some of his comments just aren't right anywhere in normal American human discourse. It's not even a "He's just dumb" thing, because even people who aren't the sharpest tool usually know social appropriateness.

What we see are symptoms of his mental issues. Those of us who are not afflicted with narcissism are baffled at his awkward attempts to relate to the situation or offer words of comfort. He knows that he should offer some evidence that he is "normal" but what is normal to someone who has no language or genuine feelings of empathy? So he guesses or has someone write a statement that he delivers in a wooden, flat performance. (Another example of his lack of empathy.)

Most of us lack the education or training to understand mental issues and use the critera of normal behavior to try to figure out what is wrong with him. Just as we will try to understand what was driving the shooter in Las Vegas to do the horrendous act he did, we struggle to explain tRump. What typically would happen in a situation like trump's is he would have been weeded out in the primary process. People would have recognized thst he is not normal and would have rejected him as a serious candidate. (And MANY of us did.) This time, he attracted a base of supporters, plus there was a boost from Russia and disloyal Americans. In time, we will find out (I believe) that there was outright cheating, too.

So we find ourselves being led by a person who may be the most ill equipped to lead us in American history. We have the solution to be rid of this danger to this nation. The question is will our Congress have the courage to utilize the remedy? So far, they have let us down and although they know far more than we do about trump's narcissism since they have met him and tried to work with him, they have failed in their due diligence.

but many a psychopathic narcissist has learned do imitate a feeling person. In fact, sometimes it's their claim to fame. I actually don't agree he's a psychopath, but his disagnosis isn't my point. I think there's something going on besides narcissism and/or psychopathy.

A bonified miracle would have been for the bullets to fall harmlessly to the ground. Was the performance by EMS and LE outstanding? Absolutely yes. Did ordinary citizens caught up in that horror exhibit heroic actions? Certainly, without question. But for the professionals, they were doing their jobs, the very things they were trained to do. People in those jobs routinely practice and run through drills for such a scenario. They hope they never have to use the training, but if they do, they are ready.

So no, it was not a miracle. It was hard work, dedicated professionals doing their jobs in an exemplary fashion. Ordinary citizens stepped up to the situation to help each other. They proved beyond all doubt that we can and will pull together when necessary. Unfortunately, our "fearless leader" would rather divide us into camps ready to fight one another instead of pulling together. We need to push back against his tactic of separating us into warring factions and reject his rhetoric of hate. His sad attempts to give words of comfort will, no doubt, be followed shortly by some outrageous statement to remind us we are "at war" with one another.
