Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio to seek sixth term

Joe Arpaio, criticized by the U.S. Department of Justice for what it called discrimination against Latinos, said Thursday that he would seek a sixth term as sheriff of Maricopa County in Arizona.

Arpaio, who has built a national reputation in conservative circles for his hard-line attitude to illegal immigration, announced his intention to run for reelection in news releases sent to local media.

... The sheriff also announced his plans Thursday afternoon in an appearance on Fox News. Arpaio has often appeared on the network discussing immigration issues.

“For all those critics that demonstrate in front of my office for three years, calling me every name in the book, I’m going to announce right now on your show, on your show, that I’m running again for sheriff, for my sixth four-year term,” Arpaio said. “So maybe they’re going to have a bad day, all these critics against me.”

I will be donating to this guy's campaign. I urge every everyone from all around the country to do the same. Finally, we have a chance to get rid of this ignorant, racist thug. Him first, then get Brewer out, and maybe Arizona will be a place I can visit again.

Everyone needs to read up on the challenger, but after a Justice Department investigation has found Arpaio violates people's civil rights all the time, and has done so his entire tenure he should win pretty easily. We can hope, and give support, especially those in Maricopa county who have the most to lose/gain from this election. I really hope those voters get on the stick and work hard for this guy Stauffer. And I urge everyone all over the country to donate to his campaign, even if all you can give is $5 a month. Every little bit helps. Come on Phoenix citizens, I want to go to the Grand Canyon very badly. My little girl needs to see that, and as long as things are so screwed up in AZ, I can't go. It's not fair, but I won't spend money in a state that has such blatant corruption and seemingly has adopted racism as it's new state motto. If you can dislodge Arpaio you can go after Brewer in the next election and get rid of her as well. Maybe then some of this far right wing agenda can be beaten back.
