Mexican officials warned the U.S. on Thursday against protectionism in negotiations on the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), Reuters reports.
Ildefonso Guajardo, Mexico's Economy Minister, warned that Trump is seeking a protectionist war that would undo NAFTA and would increase prices on goods.
Representatives from the U.S., Mexico, and Canada will meet in Washington, D.C. from Oct. 11-15 for the fourth round of talks on the agreement, after President Trump demanded significant changes to it, saying that it was to blame for the outsourcing of American jobs and a growing trade deficit with Mexico.
Mexican Senator Marcela Guerra Castillo, who leads the Mexican Senate's committee on North American affairs, said they are "deeply worried" on the U.S. position on free-trade.
