With little relief in sight, U.S. Virgin Islands go ignored

Source: Think Progress

While Puerto Ricans seethe over a gaffe-ridden visit from President Trump, residents of the U.S. Virgin Islands are eyeing a slow and ominous road to recovery with even less recognition, after the president skipped a visit to the islands altogether this week.

Trump, who visited Puerto Rico on Tuesday, two weeks after Hurricane Maria hit the island as a Category 4 hurricane, initially announced his intent to visit the neighboring Virgin Islands (which are governed in part by both the British and U.S. governments) as well. But after spending several hours in Puerto Rico, the president declined to formally pay them a visit, instead meeting U.S. Virgin Islands Gov. Kenneth Mapp offshore on a Navy ship.

That snub registered heavily with the islands’ residents, many of whom are struggling to rebuild their lives in the wake of Hurricanes Maria and Irma, which made landfall within a two week span. The U.S. Virgin Islands are a U.S. territory, which means its 105,000 residents are U.S. citizens, albeit without full voting rights. With their homes leveled, businesses destroyed, and both water and power in short supply, residents are desperate for acknowledgement.

And then there is the MORON, worried about the filibuster rule as of today, that has been in placed in our government of checks and balances for over 150 years, while this island state protectorate is in just as bad of shape has Puerto Rico ....................

This is totally unacceptable.........................

Of course 45 is ignoring them. They don't have full voting rights, either, so that is another factor. I am not surprised.

Because their Republicans voted for Cruz in the primaries after Carson dropped out? Or maybe Trump doesn't know they are also US citizens.

Dipshit clearly acts more presidential with people who he thinks support him, like the country music fans in Las Vegas.

I have asked my family and friends in Denmark why they sold these beautiful, subtropical islands. Answer: it seemed like a good idea at the time. Denmark needed the cash and the USA felt vulnerable during World War I.

Maybe it’s time for the Kingdom of Denmark to buy them back. At least the Danes would treat their subjects/citizens with a little more compassion and dignity than we do. With the possible exception of Greenland (under a wholly different set of circumstances), the Danes have grown beyond rampant colonialism, while we treat our territories as red-headed step-children at a family picnic. Guam, NMI, USVI, and — of course — Puerto Rico: am I right?
Apologies to Gingers and blended-family-members; if you have a better analogy of shunning, mistreatment or downright abuse, please let me know,

They still have no power, their home was destroyed and his place of employment was destroyed. They haven't gotten any help. His mom lives in South Carolina and if beside herself.
