Conservative Christians Express Frustration Toward Congressional Republicans

Source: NPR

Conservative Christian activists are in Washington for the annual Values Voters Summit. It should be a celebration of sorts with Republicans in full control of the federal government. But some people are angry. NPR's Susan Davis reports they say Republicans in Congress aren't doing enough to support President Trump.

SUSAN DAVIS, BYLINE: Frustration at Congress is so prevalent at this gathering. Even lawmakers are piling on, like North Carolina Republican Mark Meadows, who compared his colleagues to the shells in a shotgun.

(SOUNDBITE OF ARCHIVED RECORDING)

MARK MEADOWS: All the shells look exactly the same. In fact, you can put them in, and as you shoot, well, occasionally you come across one where you pull the trigger, and it's a dud.

DAVIS: The duds, Meadows said, are the ones resisting President Trump's agenda, like those who oppose the effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act. And what should these values voters do with the duds?

Congressional Republicans, as well as Democrats, are elected to represent their constituents. Trump's "base" is comprised of about 35% of the American people, and those are the only people he's even considering serving with his "agenda". If Congressional Republicans choose to only represent those 35% of Trump's "base" (how apropos that word is to describe them!) they won't be in their Congressional office very long.

Trump doesn't realize that 35% is not greater than 65%. He firmly believes that 35% is a mandate, and he's working only for them, and of course, himself.

And what are these religious swindlers doing petitioning the government anyway? Tax the ever loving shit out of them. If they want to stick their religious noses into state business, the state should tax them for that privilege, just as they tax every citizen living here. The 'god squad' shouldn't be anywhere near the White House or Congress. That they are there burns my ass.

Trump and these religious charlatans do have a lot in common though. They're both trying to sell bullshit to unwary, often uneducated 'customers', and they're both getting rich in the process.

by traditional definitions, they are neither conservative or Christian, and do not embrace many modern traditional American values.

They cloak their belief of superiority, but they are Dominionists who believe more in Abrahamic law than in teachings in the New Testament. Man has dominion over all the animals and the earth. Women are slightly above the animals but must submit to man. Their sole purpose is to be baby machines and caretakers of the home. Government is to be run by Christian elites, with all laws based on their interpretation of the Bible. The belief is that God has chosen the Dominionists to be the “kings on earth” and they are to be the rulers. This paragraph from Wikipedia explains:

“Christians have an obligation, a mandate, a commission, a holy responsibility to reclaim the land for Jesus Christ—to have dominion in civil structures, just as in every other aspect of life and godliness. ... But it is dominion we are after. Not just a voice. ... Christian politics has as its primary intent the conquest of the land—of men, families, institutions, bureaucracies, courts, and governments for the Kingdom of Christ.”

These people cannot be dismissed as just another group of crazies. They have gained power through the pentacostal expansion and through very wealthy benefactors. They are nes who created the whole religious freedom movement. And now they have two supporters in the White House: Trump, who is just a tool for them to manipulate, and Pence, who is one of them. Other well-known Dominionists include Betsy DeVos, Ted Cruz, Sarah Palin, and most likely the Mercers. These people preach constantly about reclaiming the sinful, secular society of the U.S., and they have a lot of supporters. We should be very afraid of them. Their success will mean the end of democracy and the establishment of a theocracy every bit as radical as any Islamic country in the Mideast.

with your assessment. Although SDA's aren't as outwardly politically aggressive as other evangelical/fundamentalist religions, they steadfastly believe in their superiority over other religions. I experienced this in real-time growing up in Loma Linda, Ca., where they literally controlled the entire city government for their "Kingdom of Christ". I've been saying this for the last 40 years to anyone who would listen, but sadly few did. Now we're seeing the fruits of their labor and it's terrifying.

"Conservative Christians"... "Values"... and their sexual predator

Political Christians rather than Christians of faith.

They support Trump who says he is so perfect that he does not need Christ or his forgiveness.

Like today's evangelical/religious right supporters, Trump is a Political Christian, not a Christian of faith.

Evangelicals/religious right are easily able to spin their beliefs for political expediency.

The Donald who does not have to ask Jesus for forgiveness.

These people don't care a whit about Jesus or anything he taught. They want an ignorant populace of serfs who will unquestioning do the will of the rich and powerful, and are happy to exploit religious people to this end.
