Collins: Trump needs to realize his 'words really matter'

Source: The Hill

BY REBECCA SAVRANSKY - 10/15/17 09:57 AM EDT

Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine.) said Sunday that President Trump needs to understand that his words matter.

During an interview on CNN's "State of the Union," Collins was asked whether she shared the concerns of Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.), who called the White House an "adult day care center" and issued a warning about Trump's rhetoric.

Collins said she has "enormous respect" for Corker. She added that Trump has surrounded himself with good and experienced members of his national security team.

"I think what the president needs to realize is that his words really matter," Collins said. "When he makes an off-the-hand comments like, 'the calm before the storm,' as he did recently, both our enemies and our allies analyze that comment to figure out what it means," she continued.

Collins 'disappointed' in Trump's actions on health care

BY MALLORY SHELBOURNE - 10/15/17 09:50 AM EDT

Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) said during an interview on Sunday that she is “very disappointed” in President Trump’s actions on health care.

“Well, I’m very disappointed in the president’s actions of this past week,” Collins told ABC’s “This Week.”

“What the president is doing is affecting people’s access and the cost of healthcare right now,” Collins added. "And I don’t agree with his decision on the subsidies that help low-income people afford their deductibles and copays and I don’t agree with his executive order.” The senator’s comments come after Trump signed an executive order last week aimed at increasing competition and chose after repeated failed attempts in Congress to repeal and replace the ObamaCare.

The White House also announced that the president is ending key payments to insurers selling ObamaCare.

No, he doesn't need to realize words matter. He's an old man. A narcissist. His words DO matter and he knows it. His words get him just what he wants.

The ONLY way to handle someone like this is to set limits. DO YOUR JOB, Susan. Fire Trump.

and therefore his words are ruining the USA. The rest of the Republican party need to realise that Trump's words matter, and can't just be smoothed over.

Take him and his words at face value Susan. He would have no trouble walking over your self righteous corpse.

And will not bring about the necessary changes. So stop being part of the problem. Show some leadership and take a strong stand, not this wishy-washy stuff.

speak out against Trump. Unless they can somehow get more republicans to speak out, then I'm not sure how much they can do. I encourage and hope they continue to speak out as much as possible. The more they do it then hopefully it will make it more likely for other republicans to do the same. I dunno, though. That seems like wishful thinking. Trump will have to destroy a lot more before that starts happening in mass, I suspect.
