Republican: The 'totality' of Trump's decision on ObamaCare payments 'helps the family'

Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) said on Sunday that President Trump's decision to end key ObamaCare payments known as cost-sharing reduction (CSR) benefits would help U.S. families.
"if you take the totality of what the president did, I think it actually helps the family," Cassidy said on "Fox News Sunday." The Republican said Trump created an opportunity for Congress to address an "unconstitutional" requirement, and he believes "Congress should pass that short term extension" of the payments.
"And that's exactly what the president is asking," he said. "But we absolutely have to think about that family around the kitchen table, which is why I think Congress should pass them. Republicans have been trying to do so, but with flexibility so that premiums go down."
"So those who are lowest income, the payments, the subsidies will still go to insurance companies for them to buy their...coverage, and someone told me that CBO says they actually might pay a little less," he continued. Cassidy, who co-authored the Graham-Cassidy repeal and replace bill that failed to pass in the Senate last month, spoke out against the termination of CSR payments in August.

(11,843 posts)The premiums might be lower, but they don't cover anything. Get sick on one of their plans and you might as well start planning your funeral.

(15,805 posts)Who, some Fox News personality that gets paid to repeat Republican sponsored propaganda lies that make Trump think he's actually doing great stuff?
Why can't he just go read the CBO reports, they're online, and they were reported in the media, so how did he miss the summaries that say the exact opposite of what he's saying. He's an idiot, and real people will die because of him!

(59,504 posts)I doubt the CBO would even have had time to score the Trump changes - even if they were actually defined to the degree needed. Not to mention, a policy that excludes things like pregnancy coverage. It also allows buying plans over state lines - where people really need to know if they have a network where they live and if they don't or their doctor is not on it, whether and what their out of network coverage is. (Not to mention, state regulation might overrule - remember that it was the state's right to reject expanding Medicaid per Roberts.)

(1,204 posts)he was just relaying what "someone told him" and didn't intend to misinform the public. But by then a bunch of idiots already have it ingrained in their heads that the CBO said it will reduce costs, and any reality based information that counters that will be dismissed as #fakenews.
They are getting really good at this.

(7,432 posts)The Crematorium industry will also skyrocket.
There will be a lot less demand for expensive, life-sustaining surgeries because there will be no way to pay for them. The alternative? Suffering and death.
See? There's a silver lining in every cloud.

(37,343 posts)is a low value-added approach. The current funeral industry model in the U.S. is the opposite. Cheap, yet dignified arrangements will be needed to deal with whole families being wiped out in case of a contagious outbreak.

The totality is that the Moron just took away healthcare from the entire South, especially his state. -68% loss of CSR payments to his state and his buddies in the Senate. I hope a democrat will just run against this POS, make him defend the damage he is doing to Louisiana residents. Make him explain why they are losing healthcare, then Medicare, which will be net, then Social Security, have him explain that. Even if there isn't a chance in hell MAKE him explain.
