Mark Halperin is parting ways with NBC News, where he has been a political analyst for years, after the publication of a CNN report in which five women accused the Game Change author of sexual harassment. Halperin has since 2010 been an analyst at NBC News and frequently appears on MSNBCs Morning Joe.
In a statement provided to Mediaite, MSNBC called the CNN story and allegations very troubling, adding that Mark Halperin is leaving his role as a contributor until the questions around his past conduct are fully understood.
The harassment reportedly took place when Halperin was the political director at ABC News in the mid-late 90s. His behavior ranged from propositioning employees for sex to kissing and grabbing ones breasts against her will. Three of the women accused him of pressing an erection against their bodies while he was clothed.
Halperin said in a statement to CNN that he now understands his behavior was inappropriate and caused others pain, and apologized, though he denied the allegations involving grabbing womens breasts and rubbing his genitalia against them.

Morning Joe Addresses Mark Halperins Sexual Harassment Allegations
by Colby Hall | 6:39 am, October 26th, 2017
Last night CNN reported that Morning Joe contributor and best-selling author Mark Halperin has been accused of sexual harassment by five women.
-snip-
This news was addressed by host Mika Brzezinski this morning as Halperin was noticeably absent from the set of Morning Joe today. In a rather solemn turn, Brzezinski adresssed the camera and said:
Now to a story that broke overnight involving someone you see around this table every day. CNN is reporting allegations regarding our friend Mark Halperin during his time at ABC News over a decade ago, unnamed sources detailing unwanted advances and inappropriate behavior. Halperin apologized for the pain his actions caused and said I will take a step pack from my day-to-day work while I properly address the situation. We are going to be following this story as it develops Im sure we are going to be talking about it again when we know more about it.
Since we now find ourselves in an era where there are increased amounts disinfecting sunlight revealing past (alleged) behavior, more and more media outlets and television programs are being ensnared by contributors past. Kudos to Morning Joe for demonstrating exactly how to such a potentially awkward news story with both honesty and grace.

(9,964 posts)...good use of the work "decade" - could "ancient history" be in the next statement?

(40,218 posts)It was a decade ago rather than last week. It doesn't make it less horrible, but time frames are part of the facts.

(9,964 posts)..."decade" makes an event sound older than the specific year/s. To be fair, Mika was probably reading whatever NBC writers had on the scroll.

(6,143 posts)For not denouncing Harvey Weinstein quicker despite them do so within a week. How long will it take her to denounce Mark Halperin?

(59,504 posts)His book started by recounting how Drudge created a story on John Kerry that was complete fiction. Kerry had a routine haircut in DC. Drudge fictionalized this to something like $1000 hair cut, hair styling, dyeing, and highlighting. He manufactured quotes supposedly from the staff that JK was very particular about how he looked. The Kerry campaign quickly responded that it was a $75 hair cut and the salon agreed. However, the fake story flooded the right blogosphere and sometimes resurfaces even in recent years on twitter.
Halperin's detailed story lauded how well the story worked to define Kerry in a negative way and noted that Drudge got the story out faster than they could counter it. (Not a difficult task - given the RW blogosphere - and certainly not something to praise.)

(3,547 posts)I could always tell he was not a fan of Obamas. He gave me the impression that he thought he was better than anyone else. He had an air of arrogance about him.

(18,124 posts)has pissed off women. NO MORE business as usual and I personally, am glad to see it. And to hell with morning joke. They are part of the media that is responsible for us having this POS as potus.
Well we will see if the women are pissed off enough to NOT vote Fuckump back in. They knew about his allegations, they heard his tape, they knew what he was, an who he is, but many women still voted him in, including many repubnuts in my family. So I'm not holding my breath that women will turn a new page.
On Halprin himself....well actions tend to speak louder then words. If innocent, why apologize for the hurt this has caused, and why leave the shows.

(18,124 posts)from me.....so true...but yet I will hang on to the little hope I have that this situation we all are in, will work out for the best. The repthugliKKKans have shown who they are, for themselves, rich people only, white people and nazi white supremacists especially.
