Comey just Twitter-trolled Trump after the Manafort indictment in a strange and cryptic way

Source: Raw Story

Fired FBI Director James Comey, the man behind the mysterious “Reinhold Niebuhr” Twitter account, issued another cryptic tweet in the aftermath of the indictment of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort.

“‘Man’s capacity for justice makes democracy possible, but man’s inclination to injustice makes democracy necessary,'” the tweet from the @FormerBu account read, citing American theologian and Comey hero Reinhold Niebuhr as the author of the quote.

Shortly after Comey was fired by President Donald Trump, a Gizmodo reporter went down the rabbit hole to reveal that the former FBI director was, in fact, the person behind the strange and sparse Twitter feed. Last week, Comey confirmed that he is, in fact, running the account.

Moments after the tweet was sent, Twitter naturally exploded with speculation and praise for the ex-FBI head. Read some of the best below.

If not for your weak-assed spineless move to "inform" congress about something that didn't have any weight to it, you are probably the biggest piece of what made the chaos we're all living through right now.

14. Yes that, plus he's probably quietly guiding Mueller

Those guys have worked together a long time, and they're probably friends or at least colleagues. Because Comey was fired so suddenly he was unable to complete a lot of things he was working on. I'm sure he's quietly communicating with Mueller & Rosenstein on stuff.

Maybe Trump thought he was thwarting the whole thing, but those guys work together - Mueller, Rosenstein, Comey and several others. It will all come out. I won't be surprised if they call Comey as a witness at some of the trials.

But yeah, fuck him for doing in Hillary. He definitely played politics in a job that's supposed to be above politics.

.......I mean, I'm a Brit looking in from afar and not paying as close attention to this as most here - but is it not just possible that Comey has played this by the book, played it long and maybe played it right ?

If he had a good idea he'd one day likely be instrumental in a possible impeachment of DT doesn't it make all the sense in the world for him to make sure he could never stand accused of shuffling serious concerns about HRCs conduct that landed in his in tray into the "no further action" file ?

I'm no expert, but I'm not sure Clinton or those around here did themselves much help in getting in the mess in the first place. But once it landed on Comeys desk he had a big decision to make and it might prove to have been the right one.

He has, if nothing else, set down a marker that the FBI Director should step in early rather than late when there's an allegation that reasonably merits it, which probably doesn't bode well for the current President if the trail leads right the way to the Oval Office.

18. The Director of the FBI is supposed to be a non-political appointment

James Comey was appointed (and approved by the Senate) for a 10-year term as all Directors have been. Even though he's a Republican, he was appointed by Obama because of his qualifications, not because of his party affiliation. So when Trump came in Comey still had 6 or 7 years left on his contract, and he had no reason to believe that his 10 years would not be completed. As far as Comey was concerned he was happy that Trump won the election, or at least he was happy the Republicans were back in power.

But the Director is not allowed to play politics. We have a law called the Hatch Act that expressly forbids government employees from taking part in political activities and helping a particular candidate win. Before the election Comey had spent 3 years investigating Hillary Clinton's emails and found nothing in 3 years. Then 10 days before the election he used a bogus "finding" of bogus "emails" and re-opened his bogus investigation while quietly notifying everyone in Congress. Of course if was all over the news within hours and it was all anyone could talk about. Hillary's poll numbers went down immediately and continued to drop. She had been leading in the polls but she lost her lead after that.

Comey played politics and violated the Hatch Act. He used his position to help Trump win, and all the Republicans knew it. Now whether or not Trump did Comey a favor by firing him is another story, given what's been happening since last Spring. At the time that Comey did it, he had every reason to believe that Trump would keep him as Director of the FBI. However he did have at least some of the info from the Steele report and the collusion with the Russians already last year. It's very possible that Comey knew he'd be investigating Trump this year, even though he helped him get elected. Other than that, it's anybody's guess. For all we know he might have been willing to drag his heels on investigating Trump, and maybe let a lot of stuff go. But we don't really know.

Since I'm a Democrat I don't feel too sorry for him. Hillary had the election stolen from her and Comey was only one of the reasons. The way things went she probably would have lost (been cheated) anyway even if Comey hadn't done what he did.

7. Comey, if you had revealed you were investigating the Trump campaign...

...we would have had an actual democratic result to our election. Alas, you had one of those "inclination to injustice" moments yourself, and sent out that bullshit letter about Hillary's emails on October 28, 2016.

Wouldn't that define what he did before Congress in October of 2016?

Seems a bit two-faced to me.

Was releasing the Indictment Krakens on the anniversary of the infamous "Comey Letter". Was this Comey, Mueller, or perhaps, Karma?

I doubt it'll ever be known...

on it anyway.

You must keep a journal to have remembered that date!

Yes, I'll think much more kindly of Comey from now on, and remember that I shouldn't be so obnoxious about people I don't really know. There's much more to this story than I can even guess at, but I'm pretty sure we're living at an extraordinary point in American history.
