Todd Akin's morning-after pill comments spark debate

Source: KMBC

"Missouri Republican Senate candidate Rep. Todd Akin said he is against the use of the morning-after pill, and that it shouldn't even be allowed to be used by women who have been raped or are victims of incest.

"As far as I am concerned, the morning-after pill is a form of abortion," Akin said during an interview on KCMO-AM. "I think we shouldn't have abortion in this country."

"It simply isn't true," said Peter Brownlie of Planned Parenthood. "It does not perform an abortion. It's a contraceptive. It prevents a pregnancy."

According to the Mayo Clinic, morning-after pills can prevent pregnancy because contraception typically does not occur immediately after sex. It can happen up to several days later. It is sometimes offered to women who have been raped or are victims of incest.

8. This pill is NOT an abortifacient.

It does nothing to the endometrium.
It does not make the uterus inhospitable to implantation.

It suppresses or delays the release of an egg, preventing conception at all. Period. There are TWO studies that back this up, and the original study that suggested it DID cause failure to implant, was flawed because they used the date method to determine ovulation, not the temperature of the uterus. Once they corrected the data for the erroneous use of the calendar date, the numbers all line up.

It is NOT an abortifacient, this senate candidate is a dipshit.

as an effective alternative to abortion, but then again nobody in their right minds expects these idiots to be either consistent, logical, or reasonable.

Put 'em in a campaign ad and make Akin stand by his cruel POV. That'll sink Akin among the women and men (who recognize women as human beings) voters.
