Howard Dean: Jared Kushner will be indicted for money laundering and the next step will be Trump family
05 Nov 2017 at 13:48 ET
Former Democratic National Chairman Howard Dean (D-VT) predicted on Sunday that President Donald Trumps son-in-law Jared Kushner will be indicted for money laundering as a part of Special Counsel Robert Muellers Russia investigation.
After NBC News reported that Mueller has enough evidence to charge former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn and his son, Trump National Diversity Coalition Director Bruce Levell told MSNBC that he was not concerned about the news.
Im totally confident. You know, I believe in the president, Levell insisted. I think this whole Russia thing is a waste of time unfortunately. Well see how that plays itself out. Weve moved on.
Dean, however, had a different take...............
We believe we may well have a criminal in the White House, Dean lamented as Levell groaned. Certainly, he has a special interest in the Trump family and their investments. And we think there is substantial likelihood that he has laundered money. Thats what his associates have been charged with.
You have a prosecutor [in Special Counsel Robert Mueller] who I think everybody on the Republican and Democratic side believes in a straight shooter, the former Vermont governor continued. He is playing a very serious hand here. Hes working his way up from the bottom as hes going to continue to do..................

(51,557 posts)We need to follow Howard Dean's example and not fear stating the obvious. We have coddled Trump and the GOP for too long.

But I do admire Dean's leadership and willingness to speak out. Let's hope the GOP is listening.

(37,648 posts)To "guess" that Kushner is being looked at...okay. But to "predict" that Kushner will be indicted, and state Trump's a criminal...that's just irresponsible and not helpful.
This is a delicate time. Let Mueller do his job. Don't make this look like a Democratic Party investigation. It's an impartial investigation. The Dems are NOT involved in the investigation.

Or, it is intentionally vague as far as the target.

(7,432 posts)were indicted months ago. Were now hearing about Manafort and Gates because their indictments were unsealed and they were CHARGED with crimes. The same is true for Kushner and others. Theyve been indicted, but Mueller has yet to unseal the indictments and file charges.

(59,503 posts)in Baltimore. I know it is less serious, but it would immediately put an end to any of the strange views that he and Ivanka were not as disgusting as the rest of the Trumps. In fact, their looks and that they look even younger than they are have kept many from seeing that his actions on those apartments, where he destroyed vulnerable people, show his complete lack of values.

(20,870 posts)Jared Kushner, the President's son-in-law, sues his Baltimore tenants for thousands of dollars in bogus debts, on which he also gets judgments allowing him to garnish their wages and drain their bank accounts.
This according to Pro Publica's Alec MacGillis, who reports in a story for this Sunday's New York Times Magazine that Kushner quietly bought-up thousands of modest and run-down apartment units in Essex and other Baltimore suburbs, whose tenants complain of poor maintenance, harsh rent collection techniques, and relentless pursuit of old and sometimes dubious debts generated after tenants moved out.
MacGillis leads off with Kamiia Warren, who moved out of Cove Village in Essex years ago to get away from a crazy neighbor. She had permission to do so from the apartment's managers, yet Kushner's company sued her years later for breaking the lease, winning more than $3,000 plus fees and expenses: almost $5,000 total by 2014.
At one point in the story, a private investigator looking into Westminster Management, Kushers property management company says, theyre nothing but slumlords. MacGillis notes the P.I. is a Trump supporter and had no idea of the connection between Trumps son-in-law and Westminster.

(5,586 posts)There's several layers of business executives, accountants, and corporate lawyers between him and any business decisions the Trump Organization made. And it's been that way for 50 years.
Plus, the IRS has been through his books dozens of times in the last 50 years. Finding evidence of money laundering given the scrutiny he's been under, in less than 6 months of analysis, will be exceptionally difficult. And they'd have to get the books from the Trump organization or from Trump's accountant. You would think they'd have realized the books needed to be squeaky clean given the job Trump was running for.
Believe me, i'd like it to be true, and i'd like to see Trump in handcuffs, but I think the chances of that happening are unlikely.

(12,344 posts)He uses hardball legal tactics to keep IRS auditors away. But reporter David Fahrenthold with just public documents was able to find evidence of fraud and tax evasion in the Trump Foundation. David Cay Johnson wrote a book about Trump's financial dealings. Again with just public information, he found evidence of criminal activity. There's a reason Trump doesn't want you to see his tax returns.
Calista241
(5,586 posts)Are two entirely different things. Regular audits by the IRS can take most of a year. The audit Mueller is attempting to do will take a team of accountants a year just to get started.
The Trump organization has billions of dollars in assets and liabilities. Theyre all in different jurisdictions and different countries with different tax requirements and implications. Documents will need to be obtained from not just the Trump Organization, but all of his creditors, and all of the organizations / people hes invested in. Most of his properties will have multiple creditors and investors.
And Muellers team doesnt have a secret map to all these investments. Theyre going to have to find the pieces and then subpoena them.
I dont think anyone here really understands how big a job it will be for Mueller to pull off this type of investigation. It will require a team of dozens or maybe a hundred accountants. Hiring 1 or 2 lawyers who specializes in financial fraud wont even begin to cut it.
And weve heard no word that hes moved his financial investigators into the Trump organization offices, which is something hed more than likely have to do. You cant just show up with a dozen new employees asking a zillion questions and move into those offices without anyone taking notice and telling reporters. Those investigators would have to secure office space, and secure file storage space. Weve heard no word of that happening.

(12,344 posts)Took an auditor 4 months in residence to do one relatively small review.
You are probably right, ultimately it is a lot of work. But right now Mueller just needs a few forensic accountants to find probable cause, not absolute proof yet. I think that such a team can do a lot more than a typical IRS audit. Aldo, he doesn't have to follow every trail like while Trump accounts steer thrm away lile an IRS audit . He just has to look at suspicious patterns in the last few years involving Russia. I think he is really looking for quid pro quos involving financial exchanges for help with a Presidential campaign or maybe a pattern of financial ties involving money laundering or tax evasion such as with Manafort.

But thank you for the link. It doesn't go to waste. Let's hope everyone is tuned in and ready to walk out of work at the moment the mistake in the White House does the deed.

(145 posts)I see Bob Mueller coming, warrant in his hand
Did all I could to stop him, now Im a wanted man
So Ill be stuck in Federal Prison screaming bloody hell
But at least my familys nearby, in an adjoining cell
When I was just a young boy, they sent me off to school
My mom said she was worried cause I was such a fool
But daddy gave me millions to be just like him
So I screwed over everyone, and now Im in the Pen
I wonder if theres rich folk still in my hotel
Eating all my steaks, and getting on just swell
But I never thought theyd catch me, and now I cant be free
And this place dont have a golf course,
And thats what tortures me
When they free me from this prison
Ill go see my old friend Vlad, I know he will help me, be very glad
But hes also in a hot seat with a man in red
So please tell me sir, what are those horns in your head?
