Sister of Texas church shooting Victim: "No more guns."
Source: CNN
(CNN)The family of one of the 26 people shot and killed in a Texas church Sunday morning appeared on CNN's "New Day" Tuesday with a simple message: "No more guns."
Evangelina Santos, whose brother Richard Rodriguez died in the attack in the small town of Sutherland Springs, choked back tears as she told anchor Alisyn Camerota, "Anybody can carry a gun now, even crazy people. Tell the President that. No more guns."
Santos's niece, Regina Rodriguez, was also emotional as she explained that she was unsure how to tell her five children what happened to their grandfather.
"I just explain to all my kids that he's in heaven," she said. "I don't know what else to do."

(11,519 posts)The right wing gun nuts I know are jumping all over the fact that this criminal had a history of domestic violence in the Air Force and they neglected to make that information known. Their answer to gun violence is always "if only existing laws were enforced blah blah blah".
OK, so maybe this one instance is a result of gun laws not being adequately followed. However, if the guy wanted a weapon he damned sure could have found plenty at a gun show, or made a direct purchase from a private individual, or found any number of other ways to obtain one.
We have lost far too many people to gun violence to simply sit back and claim there's not a problem. It's WAY past time for the NRA and the rest of the right to quit sucking up to the gun lobby and start joining us in looking for a solution to the problem.

He COULD have found a gun illegally, but he didn't. He strolled in and lied, and waltzed out.
REGULATE THE MILITIA.

(25,380 posts)It also happened with Dylann Roof. I believe ATF did not return the background check to the gun store within three days and by default the gun was sold to Dylann.
I wonder how many guns are out there due to govt mistakes?
We do need to enforce existing gun laws.
Of course, that is not the only solution.

(33,982 posts)The reporting requirements are 'voluntary'. If the state reports to NICS, they get access to additional federal law enforcement funding. If they don't report, they don't get the carrot. There is no stick.
The military is the same, think of it as a 'state' in this case. Report, great. Don't report, nothing happens.
This can be addressed without any opposition from the NRA or anyone else. Make the reporting a REQUIREMENT, give the Lautenberg Amendment some teeth.

Dylan Roof was an "whoops" now this.
