Washington’s huge new Bible museum says it wants to stay out of politics. But its opening gala is at the Trump hotel.

The leadership of the Museum of the Bible has been working hard in the run-up to this weekend’s opening to emphasize the inclusive, academic, apolitical nature of the museum, which organizers say will be the world’s largest dedicated to the Bible and sits just off the Mall.

And so its opening black-tie gala Thursday night is presenting a challenge: The $50,000-a-table fundraising event is at the Trump hotel.

Officials at the nonprofit museum say the decision was for pragmatic, scheduling reasons but some museum employees and academic consultants refused to enter the hotel affiliated with the controversial president.

Museum officials said by the time they started looking for space, about a year ago, the Trump hotel was the only ballroom available in Washington that could accommodate such a big group. The Thursday dinner gala will have about 750 people in attendance.

So Washington, D.C. is the perfect place for a bible "museum" which wants to stay completely out of politics.

It's not hypocrisy, it's lying right to everyone's faces and daring them to say something about it. They're trying to pick a fight with politics, daring someone to start something.

It might as well be an antique stuffed teddy bear they added a divine prayer binky made of cheap polyester to. Something that constantly requires protection from some nebulous "Forces of Evil" that are equally cartoonishly weak but still powerful enough to destroy civilization as we know it - when the believers need to be riled up.

They certainly don't worship an entity that was strong enough to have created the entire f***'n Universe - Quantum Physics and all.
Because that entity doesn't need their support, and if it was concerned about personal relationships and "the fall of a single sparrow", that concern would be applied across all creation - including to those these so-called believers consider unworthy or enemies.

They prefer the god they create in their own image - a smarmy politician.

I believe they said it explored many versions of the Bible. And the Hobby Lobby family did envision this museum and was the largest donor but apparently about 4 years ago they moved away from creating a place to indoctrinate people into the Christian faiths and more towards a secular examination of the Bible.

This is a podcast of today's show. It says 47 minutes but I don't think they gave the museum that much of the hour.
