Roy Moore has regained the lead over Doug Jones, according to new polls

Source: Vox

The Alabama special election is two weeks away, and three recent polls now show Republican candidate Roy Moore is likely to win.

Jones had opened up as much as an 8-point lead in one mid-November poll taken in the days and weeks after the first women came forward with sexual misconduct allegations against Moore. Now that gap has closed.

A JMC Analytics Poll released Wednesday that surveyed 650 registered Alabama voters Monday and Tuesday had Moore with a 5-point lead over Jones, 48 to 43 percent. About 4 percent of voters planned to write in a candidate, and about 5 percent remained undecided. Moore has made up ground: In another JMC Analytics Poll taken right after the Washington Post reported that Moore sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl when he was in his 30s, Jones was up 4 points, with 46 percent of voters planning to vote for Jones versus 42 percent for Moore.

That’s in line with two other recent polls. Change Research, in an online survey conducted Sunday and Monday found that Moore led Jones by 5 points, 47 percent to 42 percent among registered voters. About 7 percent of voters were undecided, and just shy of 4 percent said they would opt for a write-in candidate. The same firm conducted a November 15-16 poll that put Jones up by 3 points. Moore has since closed that lead, and then some.

Nothing has changed. Another grossly unqualified pervert and nut case will be elected, based on a rabid disinformation campaign aimed at the opposing party.

Something needs to happen or the midterms will go the same way. I'd bet the treasonous scum are already working on it.

They see all of this as some sort of made up attack on Moore for his “faith”. They are emboldened because of this. All these allegations did was confirm to the evangelical voter exactly what they’ve heard from the pulpit for years: there are those who will accuse and assault you for your faith and you must take a stand for “God” in the face of these attacks.

It’s sick, it’s beyond comprehension but having grown up in that culture I can assure you that these brainwashed fucks will line up in droves to vote for “their guy”, and Moore is playing them like a fiddle for his own purposes because he knows how to fire them up.

The only caveat I would add is...yes, all those sources have fueled this fire, but the sentiment has been brewing for years, dating at least to the late 70’s early 80’s in the evangelical community. This is the culmination of the evangelical political movement, despite the hypocrisy. In their world: “Liberals are of the devil....”. I exaggerate but it not that far from the truth

Nov 2017

I've lived in many places during my life, including the Deep South. I chose not to live there permanently.

I'm aware there are many good people in the South. It just seems the divide is still there and, in many ways, the majority of the population in the South is impeding the nation's progress.

Where in my post did I claim superiority based on my birthplace? That is a frivolous personal attack. I was born south of the Mason-Dixon Line.

And when you suggest that 'we' should have let the south secede, to this man it sounds like you are claiming superiority I hope like hell you live in California, New York, Minnesota or some state like that.

Because if you live in Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana or any or the other trump loving plains states, you are a hypocrite. At least the southern racist can claim they come by it honestly. The Trump voters from the Midwestern states are pissing on their ancestors graves. When you read about the bravery, suffering and valor of the Midwestern boys in the civil war it is appalling that their ancestors are voting for a racist SOB. Just read about the losses that the Iowa boys had.

All of American was and is racist. The south, due to it history and agricultural patterns has born the largest burden of that legacy. And rightly so. But the rest of American is not excused.

One thing I find kind of arbitrary is state lines, especially in the East, and how they were delineated. Lord such-and-such granted a piece of land to Baron whoever and we're stuck with those arbitrary boundaries hundreds of years later. All these weird panhandles and things don't make much sense.

Another thing I ponder is whether the U.S. someday will divide into separate nations.

Regarding the past, I ponder "what if" there had been a diplomatic agreement to divide rather than fight a war to keep the country together. I speculated that the outcome might have been better for some and probably bad for the South. That led you to the false assumption I was bashing all people in the South today. That's not the case.

"At least the southern racist can claim they come by it honestly." Can you explain that statement? Are you claiming Southern racists are somehow morally superior to Northern racists? If so, I would strongly disagree.

I would probably enjoy drinking a few beers and talk this stuff with you.

The whole ‘come by it honestly’ was intended as a gross critique of my people. Southern whites have always been out front with their racism. Hell, they are still proud of their ancestors who fought a war to keep slavery. My wife’s ancestors in the Midwest used to be proud of their service to the union and to freeing the slaves. But now they seem just like the neoconfederates in the South. So they are pissing on the ancestors graves. The ancestors of the southern racist would be proud of their racist progeny.

That was my meaning. Not glorifying Southerners. But lamenting that midwesterners are joining the club.

But I'm easily amused.

People of Rhode Island would not be pleased with the results that I contemplate.

But it seems irrational for a tiny state with few people to have the same power in the Senate as a giant state like California. Don't get me started on the electoral college!

Talk about arbitrary lines! As an illinoisan, i see no reason why Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin are just one giant state.

All four are Great Lake states, all four have similar culture, similar industry, similar demographics. The line between WI and IL or IN and IL are meaningless anachronisms.

And while we're at it, why two Dakotas? Why not Minnekota? Wrap up those three states in one big package.

Inwisinoismich kind of rolls off the tongue! Germans would like it.

I think the whole country could be rationally set up with about 10 or 15 states. In the north-middle part, Minnekota looks good. Texas and Oklahoma could definitely be wrapped up, but football fans would never let this happen!
