'MADMAN': NY Daily News Throws Gauntlet in Editorial Attacking Trump as 'Mentally Unwell'

Source: Mediaite

In the wake of yet another unhinged, conspiracy-mongering, morning tweetstorm from the president, the New York Daily News‘ editorial board published a piece claiming President Donald Trump is suffering from a form of poor mental health-induced “mania.”

While the paper is known to be New York City’s more liberal publication, seriously questioning Trump’s mental capacity and referring to him as a “madman” — in the literal sense of the term — is still striking.

The editorial board wrote the following in their op-ed today:

“After his latest spasm of deranged tweets, only those completely under his spell can deny what growing numbers of Americans have long suspected: The President of the United States is profoundly unstable. He is mad. He is, by any honest layman’s definition, mentally unwell and viciously lashing out… The sheer strangeness of Trump’s behavior leads us to conclude that we are witnessing signs of mania.”

Trump is intentionally setting the grounwork for a 25th amendment action.

It fits his pattern. To be 25th'd, he wouldn't be president at the same time he isn't not president. The 25th doesn't remove him from office, it just takes away all powers and transfers it to the vp as acting pres.

Trump can play the victim card and retain a lot of the trappings of the office, like secret service protection, a full time staff, free meals, and a platform to spew his hate from, free of political backlash. He would be the president in exile.

It also protects him from impeachment. Why would congress impeach a president who has already been stripped of power? Likewise, he could credibly claim he isn't fit to stand trial.

It's the perfect way out.

Watch for it.

He is not looking for a way out. He's like any other dictator: a megalomaniac who cannot possibly imagine not being in power, even as he stands in front of the firing squad.

There are only two choices here. Either he really is addled and criminally unstable or he is almost there, and also trying to convince us he is truly dangerous and needs to be put under the protection of the 25th.

Trump's past "exits" would indicate he would prefer the 25th to either resignation or impeachment.

It lets him play the victim card.

He will be in a position in exile where he can be as mean and racist as he wants with no repercussions. The media might report on what he says (which is a plus to him), but they wouldn't focus attacks on him. His approval ratings might even improve from a sympathy reaction.

He could still claim to be president; albeit it with zero power or position, because he would be. Pence would only be the "acting" president. Trump could spend his day on golf courses around the world, sleep openly with starlettes, and live the life of a royal. And all of it on our dime no doubt.

No disgrace in being disabled. We don't hold mentally ill people to the same standard as healthy people once they are no longer in a position of harming others. His pardons could probably be upheld since he was too ill to be trying to obstruct anything and any trial against him would be made more difficult if he is determined by 2/3 of congress to not be competent.

It works for him all around. And if he never makes a claim he is fit, it will last until the end of his term.

It also works for the weasels in congress. They won't impeach/convict him him because the base would kill them. But this method gets rid of him and there would be no backlash. Especially if he calls them and says this what he wants.

are all caught up in the Russian money affair. They should ALL be removed from office. McConnell knew ahead of time that tRump was going to be placed into the WH. He refused hearings on Garland, saying the next president will fill the SC vacancy. You don't think he for one moment thought that would be Hillary, did you? He has that smirk on his ugly mug every time he is in close proximity to the orange menace, too. Well, I guess tRump could be considered white, in spite of the orange hue. McConnell and the rest of the gop were intimidated by President Obama since he is highly intelligent and people LOVE him.

The "Madness of King Trump," indeed. He is unfit for office. Unfortunately, he plays a useful role for the Republican majority in Congress, and that will make it difficult to dump Trump until Mueller's investigation is finished.
