Matt Lauer: 'To the people I have hurt, I am truly sorry'
Source: CNN
A day after NBC announced his termination, Matt Lauer said Thursday that he is "truly sorry" for the pain he has caused.
Lauer has been accused of sexual harassment by multiple women through interviews with The New York Times and Variety magazine. At least three women have filed complaints with NBC.
"There are no words to express my sorrow and regret for the pain I have caused others by words and actions," Lauer said in a statement provided to CNN. "To the people I have hurt, I am truly sorry. As I am writing this I realize the depth of the damage and disappointment I have left behind at home and at NBC."
"Some of what is being said about me is untrue or mischaracterized, but there is enough truth in these stories to make me feel embarrassed and ashamed. I regret that my shame is now shared by the people I cherish dearly," Lauer said.

(7,768 posts)As the most prominent, powerful figure at NBC News you figured you'd get away with anything.
So you summoned a woman to your office and locked your door. You ordered her to remove her blouse.
You bent her over your chair and raped her. She was so traumatized and terrified she passed out and collapsed.
A company nurse had to be called to attend to her.
I hope your fucking ass gets sued to oblivion. I hope you are penniless and miserable the rest of your disgusting life. (and I hope that life isn't much longer)

I'm glad he got busted. I hope others have the courage to come forward. I hope he's ruined and I hope he gets sued for everything he's got.
I also feel profound sadness for the women and his victims who will be affected by his assaults for the rest of their lives.

Nothing I've read about what he did could possibly be misread or misunderstood. A lot of it certainly seems criminal.
Isn't anyone else curious why at least two of his victims passed out after sessions in his locked office and had to be taken to company medical offices?

(343 posts)Just another dick anchor, not worth anything like what they paid him. So he is nice on camera and can banter with other air heads.
So what? That's worth 20 million a year and letting him showing his dick to fellow employees? The real people here that need the 20 million are the women he did this stuff too. But don't feel bad for Matt! He's head off to the hills with his money and re-emerge later in some form, saying he has changed and is now a good guy. The whole broadcasting business sucks, that's why I left. A friend of mine (who also got out) told me one time the biggest dicks he ever met in his life were in TV. Boy, ain't that the truth.

(6,044 posts)I'm not a fan of most television "hosts" and can't even conjure up an image of Lauer-but after watching a clip of his manipulative questioning of Hillary Clinton in the debate I think it is imperative to get the Matt Lauers out of the debate process.
One thing we have lost in the election process was the role of the League of Women Voters. In 1988 which pulled out of its traditional role because -in the words of the League they did not want to help perpetrate a fraud.
LEAGUE REFUSES TO "HELP PERPETRATE A FRAUD"
WITHDRAWS SUPPORT FROM FINAL PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE
WASHINGTON, DC "The League of Women Voters is withdrawing its sponsorship of the presidential debate scheduled for mid-October because the demands of the two campaign organizations would perpetrate a fraud on the American voter," League President Nancy M. Neuman said today.
"It has become clear to us that the candidates' organizations aim to add debates to their list of campaign-trail charades devoid of substance, spontaneity and honest answers to tough questions," Neuman said. "The League has no intention of becoming an accessory to the hoodwinking of the American public."
Neuman said that the campaigns presented the League with their debate agreement on
September 28, two weeks before the scheduled debate. The campaigns' agreement was negotiated "behind closed doors" and was presented to the League as "a done deal," she said, its 16 pages of conditions not subject to negotiation.
The League of Women Voters full hard hitting statement can be found here:
https://www.lwv.org/newsroom/press-releases/league-refuses-help-perpetrate-fraud
It was the campaigns of GHW Bush and of Dukakis who worked together in secret to keep the the League from asking hard questions.
It was a shameful campaign agreement and set the stage for what we have today. So Campaign, 1988 was an strike both against women in the public sphere and for dishonesty in presidential politics.
