Former national security adviser Michael Flynn's guilty plea Friday for lying to the FBI is alarming news for Donald Trump. But the first person it's likely to jeopardize will be the president's son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
Two former officials with the Trump transition team who worked closely with Flynn say that during the last days of the Obama administration, the retired general was instructed to contact foreign ambassadors and foreign ministers of countries on the U.N. Security Council, ahead of a vote condemning Israeli settlements. Flynn was told to try to get them to delay that vote until after Barack Obama had left office, or oppose the resolution altogether.
That is relevant now because one of Flynns lies to the FBI was when he said that he never asked Russia's ambassador to Washington, Sergey Kislyak, to delay the vote for the U.N. Security Council resolution. The indictment released today from the office of special prosecutor Robert Mueller describes this lie: "On or about December 22, 2016, Flynn did not ask the Russian Ambassador to delay the vote on or defeat a pending United Nations Security Council resolution."

(129,440 posts)that there was a SITTING President (Obama) STILL in office, who was legally continuing to govern at THAT time, AND who would legally remain head of state until January 20th, 2017 at noon. So all of this stuff was going on illegally.

(7,188 posts)Maybe Flynn didn't know about Trump Tower meeting and work with Russians by Manafort, Kushner, Donald Jr. - Flynn only had side of equation - he was compartmentalized - reach out to Russia and other foreign leaders because he had prior relationship with those governments.
Not arguing to defend him just positing point as he may now realize he was used and could be cooperating as a result.
The real kingpins were Kushner, Donald Jr and dad.

Question is, will Jared keep quiet and take one for the team, or will he turn on Cheeto along with the others? It could be tricky since he probably is looking at jailtime, and who knows if he'll end up divorced as well.

I can't believe Pence and Sessions aren't involved somewhere, though. Pence was head of the transition and Sessions was the other big national security advisor.

(972 posts)Kushner probably knows that being the father to his grandkid and husband to his daughter that he won't be left to twist in the breeze. I have to imagine Trump would pardon Kushner regardless of the political fallout just do to the family relation.
Anyone else and they would have to wonder if Trump would have their back and would be more likely to make a deal.

(6,044 posts)Trump may see that as just a wasted pardon.
"Jared, if I pardon you on the federal charge they will just go harder on you on the state charges-and besides for a guy like you the federal prison system has much better accommodations. Cuomo will have you in Attica."
