Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) on Sunday came to the defense of ABC reporter Brian Ross, who faced heavy criticism from Republicans after falsely reporting that then-candidate Donald Trump directed Ret. Gen. Michael Flynn to contact Russian officials during the 2016 presidential election.
Grassley, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said it is "difficult" for him to see malice in Ross's "mistake" while pointing to the "good relationship" he has maintained with the veteran reporter.
He added that Ross took Grassley's political science course between 1967 and 1968. Ross went to college in Iowa.

ABC News suspended Ross after he inaccurately reported on Friday that Flynn was prepared to testify that Trump "directed him to make contact with the Russians" during the campaign, citing a source who is a close associate to the former White House national security adviser.

(6,400 posts)This is a teacher who has an affection for a student kind of thing and actually shows that Grassley has at least a little empathy out there.

I despise a great many Republicans, Grassley included, but having lived with some diehard republicans I also know that they can be exactly like this.

Thats why the richest deserve a break on estate taxes, says Chuck Grassley.
In an astonishing defense of dropping death taxes for individual estates worth more than $5.5 million, GOP Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley implied that people not currently affected by that tax are spending every darn penny ... on booze or women.

Turkel was a stupid example of leftist. Remember that reference and one of the main reasons we dumped All Bullshit Constantly .

ABC did not "Retract" Ross' report.

(3,051 posts)This was a contact by Flynn after Trump "won" the election. The purpose, apparently, had to do with checking on Russia's position in a upcoming UN vote and discussing how Russia and the USA would deal with each other in Syria when Trump took the oath.
Now, this might be a problem with the 218 year old, never-enforced, Logan Act, but probably not.
Ross falsely implied that the contact had to do with election meddling.
That's a major screw up.
