Flake Cuts Check for Doug Jones in Alabama Senate Race

Source: The Hill

Outgoing Arizona Republican Sen. Jeff Flake tweeted a picture of a $100 check made out to Democratic Senate candidate Doug Jones’ campaign in Alabama.

Flake, who has frequently criticized Moore, posted a picture of the check saying simply “Country over party.”

Flake announced he would not seek re-election in 2018 amidst lagging poll numbers after his sharp criticisms of President Donald Trump.

And if $100 will get you registered, then I got VERY registered a few weeks ago. Oh, well. That's one registry I'm perfectly happy to be on.

Jeff Flake is literally putting his money where his mouth is.

Some may say he should have donated more but the fact remains that this is a huge middle finger to a nominee of his party for Senate.

Uhh, Senator Jeff? WHAT ABOUT YOUR VOTE ON THAT ABOMINATION OF A BILL LAST SATURDAY MORNING???

Just which country were you supporting over party then? The Russian Federation?

It sure as hell was NOT the USA. I would have preferred he send Moore $100 and vote AGAINST the McTurtle bill.

I swear, his last name seems SO damned appropriate sometimes.............

Gives a dressing-down to Trump only on his way out the door, but still votes with him over 90% of the time. This is a publicity stunt only. A token gesture to make us think he cares about anything but himself. He's still a party hardliner, and I'll believe any change when I see it.

Also, if endorsing a Democrat over a child molester is the only bar he has to cross to gain our approval, the bar has been lowered so far I can't even look at it any more.

He probably has aspirations to run for other office, and knows he looks bad over the tax scam vote, hence this stunt.

We are not fooled.

It's been done before. And with as shameful as the GOP is with all of their Russian ties, this would be a good time for some senators to jump ship.

So it shouldn't surprise anyone that he voted for the Senate GOP tax cut bill. I don't agree with him, but I'm not surprised.

And I don't think he's donated to Jones for political purposes, since he's already announced he won't run for re-election in '18. I think he's just expressing his disgust for Moore AND for Trump, and making it as public as possible. And that I agree with.

Flake's differences with Trump appear to be centered on matters such as Immigration and Nationalism, as well as Trump's instability and authoritarian style. However Flake has described himself as a Goldwater Republican, and he supports much of Trump's conservative agenda. In fact, some of his criticisms of Trump center on the president not being sufficiently conservative. Flake is a Mormon, and he views Trump's religious based travel ban to be a threat to Mormonism in the USA. However, despite Trump labeling Flake as a Democrat in disguise, Flake is clearly quite conservative, and no friend in general of the Democratic Party. His donation to Jones is more of a jab at Trump, and an assertion of his Mormon revulsion at Moore's questionable morality. '

I believe the presumptive Republican nominee for Flake's seat is a rather extreme right winger, so it will be interesting to see if a Dem steps up and presents a platform that appeals to a majority of Arizona voters in 2018.

As is Corker and McCain. They are ALL three running out the door. If they had any real conviction about the crap they spout they'd stay and fight for it.
