Sen. Al Franken will resign, Democratic official says

Source: Minnesota Public Radio

A Democratic official who has spoken to Al Franken and key aides says Franken will resign his Minnesota Senate seat on Thursday, the official tells MPR News.

The official spoke to Franken and separately to Franken's staff. A staff member told the official that Franken had gone to his Washington home to discuss his plans with family.

MPR News agreed to withhold the official's name because the official wanted to give Franken the chance to talk about his decision in his own words.

Franken faced a cascade of calls Wednesday from fellow Democrats and other political allies to leave office in response to multiple allegations of sexual harassment.

And we did it to ourselves. We didn't stand up for our candidate and demonstrate what an effectively strong leader she is and would be. Instead a lot of us let the label that she was a woman, weak on crime, and one step from prison rule the airwaves. So not true and yet that's all people heard.

Dems should know better. I believe the majority of democrats do not want Franken to resign. His actions cannot even be compared to the actions of republicans any way you slice it.

No one is calling for Farenthold to resign for settling sexual harassment suits with taxpayer money, and, instead of grilling GOP leaders about it, the media is ignoring the story.

and Mitch says PedoRoy is in if he wins.

1. Minnesota won't lose a seat to a Republican. Our governor is a Democrat and will fill Frankens seat with a Democrat
2. This isn't a sprint. Its a distance race. And no matter the short term outcome of this fiasco, the Republican party cannot paint itself as the party of "high moral standards".
3. IF Franken resigns due to the pressures put on him by the Democratic party, WE DO HAVE THE HIGH GROUND, and WE ARE ETHICAL. As bitter the taste may be, come election time, people in Minnesota are going to remember the high ground Al Franken took for them.

When you get a tape of Franken saying that he likes grabbing pussy, and he can't help himself (pResident), or he spent taxpayer money to settle harassment complaints (Farenthold, Conyers), I'll join the chorus. Right now I want an investigation not a resignation. Where is the screaming about Farenthold? He paid out 87k of our money and all I've seen is his statement he'll pay it back. Even the picture of Senator Franken making hand gestures over Ms Tweeden's kevlar vest don't strike me as damning in the same sense.

Yeah maybe I'm cutting him too much slack, but it seems to me that this is a targeted attack on a very progressive Senator, who Republicans would sorely like to rid themselves of.

How is that gonna work when thuglicans control EVERY aspect of collecting to tallying votes all across this country. Do you trust them? I live in California and feel confident in our process of elections here because we have a super majority here of Dems. But, what about the states where you have thuglicans running them? Look at what happened in Florida, Ohio, Arizona and in other states where something was "wrong" with Dem votes being counted due to voter-suppression.

We have a ruling coming down from a 5-4 righty Supreme Court in 2018 which could make Wisconsin and other used to be Dem states permanently RED thanks to gerrymandering, not to mention that thuglicans voter-suppress and voter-ID Dems WILL voter-suppress Dems off the chain in 2018/2020. You also have a 5-4 Supreme Court thanks to Yertle the nasty turtle which I see ultimately getting rid of Roe v Wade. I didn't even mention the ruskie meddling still going unchecked into our politics. In fact, little has changed since 2016's GE. The courts are being stacked by thuglicans crazies in lifetime appointments, and I don't see much good coming from their rulings in the next generation. It'll be bleak times for the common man/woman.

Dems and their moral high ground. Getting them KILLED everytime.

Gonna be mighty moral seeing Roy Moore in the Senate being one of the votes voting AGAINST laws/bills which will protect woman/children against domestic violence and against sexual assault/rape.

Which is Mark Dayton, a democrat.

The most recent groping allegation (of two today) was by a noted Democratic agent at the 2009 Media Matters party. It's a pretty convincing piece.

So, he does need to go.
