John Lewis won't attend civil rights museum opening due to Trump presence

Source: The Hill

Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) announced Thursday he won’t attend the opening of the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum on Saturday because President Trump will be there.

“President Trump’s attendance and his hurtful policies are an insult to the people portrayed in this civil rights museum," Lewis said in a statement.

Lewis cited Trump’s past comments about women, immigrants and NFL players who have protested during the national anthem before games, saying his remarks "disrespect the efforts" of civil rights leaders.

He had previously said he was reconsidering whether to attend after the White House announced Tuesday that Trump would be at the event in Jackson, Miss.

Yes, trump is a prick. But right now he's President Prick. And this is what presidents are supposed to do.
If he DIDNT go, we'd all be posting about what a prick he was for NOT going & that its proof he doesn't give a shit!!
Of course that doesn't mean anyone else's attendance is mandatory!

I know my opinion will be in the minority but thats Ok.

Trump showing up to be protested is just a scam to play to the knuckle-draggers in the state next door for their Senate election next Tuesday.

Fuck him.

Not having the greatest living symbol from that era speaks much louder than a loudmouth egotistical lout.

BTW weren't the Trumps being prosecuted for civil rights violations in the '60s while Lewis was still busting his ass for civil rights?

it is a sin that John Lewis will not be at this event and it must be a disappointment for him that he feels he can not/should not attend. He continues to lead and set an example for us all.

I applaud him for taking this stand.

and engaged in some form of protest in front of Trump. Maybe have the National Anthem played and kneel while it is being played.
If Trump is going to attend the opening of a museum that, presumably, celebrates the protests that were at the heart of the civil rights movement, he should get to experience a protest first-hand.
