Clashes erupt across West Bank over U.S. Jerusalem pivot

Source: Associated Press

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS 12/08/2017 07:48 AM EST

JERUSALEM — Palestinians clashed with Israeli troops across the West Bank and Gaza, and Muslim worshippers from Jordan to Indonesia poured into the streets after Friday prayers to protest President Donald Trump's recognition of contested Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

At least one Palestinian was killed in skirmishes between protesters and Israeli troops along the Gaza border fence, the Palestinian Health Ministry said. Dozens more were reported wounded in clashes in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Protesters burned Israeli and U.S. flags or stomped on Trump posters in displays of anger.

In the West Bank, demonstrators torched heaps of tires, sending columns of thick black smoke rising over the cities of Ramallah and Bethlehem. Palestinian stone-throwers traded volleys in the streets with soldiers firing tear gas and rubber bullets.

The Israeli military reported protests at 30 locations across the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and said Israeli forces arrested six people.

...is one that ends with the country name returned to "Palestine" and progressive, socially justice rule replacing "Israel" and US-Republican Party-backed rule.

has NEVER been Palestine. A country named Palestine was offered 70 years ago and they decided to go to war to get the whole thing for themselves and lost. And then lost again, and again and again. Why don't more people who trash Israel all day long know this? And anyone expecting a progressive, socially just country in that area of the world is naive beyond comprehension.

...because of its anti-progressive, pro-capitalist, pro-US Republicanist oppression of Palestineans. The fact that the ONLY reason the region is violent is BECAUSE of US Republicans, conservatives, white supremacy, and capitalism. Period.

You mean where women can get an education, a job, a LIFE outside of their fathers/brothers/husband's worlds? Where women have control over their reproductive lives? Where gays can live openly?

If you want to ignore the Shia v Sunni war was in full bloom for hundreds of years before 1948, knock yourself out. Tell me, why is isis trying to wipe out Syrians WTF does THAT have to do with Israel? How about Yemen? Go ahead and blame Israel until your life is content. All is shows me is you have zero comprehension of the history of the region.

Establishing Greater Israel covering all of the Promised Land is taking too long. Violent conflict and perhaps a major war are necessary to reduce the Palestinian population and grab another chunk of land.
