LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) The Latest on a judge ordering Arkansas to stop issuing birth certificates (all times local):
12 p.m.
Arkansas has resumed issuing birth certificates after the governor ordered the Health Department to comply with a U.S. Supreme Court ruling and list the spouse of the woman who gives birth as a parent, regardless of gender.
A state Department of Health spokeswoman says the agency resumed issuing and amending certificates Friday, less than two hours after halting because of an order by Pulaski County Circuit Judge Tim Fox.
The U.S. high court ruled in June that Arkansas' birth certificate law illegally favors heterosexual parents. Fox said Friday that the law still doesn't comply with that ruling and ordered the department to stop issuing certificates.

(5,801 posts)while the country burns and the pukes continue their assault on democracy and America, a significant percentage of this state's population expends its time and energy on this type of dumbassery.
Apologies to enlightened Arkansans.

(18,636 posts)Can this virtuous bible thumping county judge find the governor in contempt of his pulpit? ...I mean court. Contempt of his court.
I get it though. Judge Fox doesn't recognize the US Supreme Court when it disagrees with his personal interpretation of God's law. To begin with, the county can save a bundle if they insist his heavenly supervisor start paying his salary.
...Then find another judge.

(11,098 posts)He was put in an untenable position by Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge - one of our more right-wing nuts (and that's a high bar in Arkansas) who was representing the State. Judge Fox's order gave our almost as right-wing governor a few days to issue new regulations to allow both members of a same sex couple to be listed as the parents AND if he did not, the State was enjoined from issuing birth certificates. Not surprisingly, the governor issued such an executive directive within the hour.

(18,636 posts)Having such a man as Rutledge in office as AG can cause a lot of problems, like expensive law suits and protests.
Perhaps government employees could be tested to ensure they're both drug and bible free at work.

AG Rutledge is female. Not much lawyer, but female.
