Comcast announces $1,000 bonuses after passage of tax bill
Source: The Hill
Comcast on Wednesday announced that it will give $1,000 to over 100,000 of its employees as a result of the passage of tax-cut legislation in Congress, as well as the FCC's repeal of net neutrality.
"Based on the passage of tax reform and the FCC's action on broadband, Brian L. Roberts, Chairman and CEO of Comcast NBCUniversal, announced that the Company would award special $1,000 bonuses to more than one hundred thousand eligible frontline and non-executive employees," the company said in a statement.
Roberts also announced that Comcast would invest $50 billion over the next five years in infrastructure towards its broadband plant and capacity, and our television, film and theme park offerings.
Comcast says that it expects to bring on thousands of new employees as a result of the investments. The firm says it will offer further details in its Jan. 24 earnings report.

ETA - the workers have a mini William Penn up on the tallest beam of the above building to keep the championship curse away!
It matches the one on top of our city hall that used to be the tallest building until the mid-80s -

To celebrate the new tax bill and the end of #netneutrality Comcast will be hiking broadband by a little less than 10%, set top box fees by 10%, cable TV fees, and more! Comcast is joining Dish, Cox and DirecTV in informing customers that they'll be paying significantly more money for the same service in the new year. Users in our Comcast Xfinity forum say they're being told that the company is preparing monthly price hikes of $1 to $5 for most of the company's pay TV services. Comcast's is also jacking up the price it charges for premium channels, as well as its monthly "Regional Sports fee" from $5 to $6.75 per month.
Users are also being informed that Comcast is bumping its misleading "Broadcast TV fee" from $7 per month to $8.
....
This full thread in our forum has a breakdown of all the looming changes.

(3,363 posts)It's based on a union settlement and has nothing to do with their new profits. Complete lie and PR stunt to convince idiots that the tax bill is great for them.

(10,857 posts)It's because when tax cuts are passed the people and corporations that benefit from it go into profit-taking mode. Comcast can afford to give out a hundred million bucks in bonuses because they're going to lay off twenty percent of their workforce next year, netting around three hundred million in cold hard cash. The bonus will keep some of the greedier ones around until the day they're axed.
