An Oklahoma man beat his girlfriend's five-year-old son with a belt to "teach him a lesson" because he opened one of his Christmas gifts early, it has been alleged.
Wesley McCollum, 22, was arrested on Saturday night in Okmulgee after his girlfriend Bridgette Payne called police.
She claims she returned home from running errands to find her five-year-old son Ayrian lying in his bed covered in cuts and bruises, the Daily Mail reports.
Payne said McCollum told her he had sent the child to bed as punishment for opening the wrapped present.

(4,266 posts)I'm 32, so not extremely far distanced. When I was 22, I was playing video games and taking life as easy as my disability allows. I loved babies of all sorts (human and animal), and loved watching my mom's friend's niece for her. First baby I ever held.
There is no circumstance under which I can imagine hitting a child, much less beating them all over with a belt. Not even if they had done something to royally tick me off would I raise a hand. Forget about taking a weapon to them - and that is what it was, battering that poor little kid with a weapon.
I don't know if the guy is mentally unsound, or if he's perpetuating the kind of treatment he himself received as a child. Either way, doesn't make it right.

(9,426 posts)the only time this creep abused the kids. Let the boy's father have him for 10 minutes. The other kids must have been terrorized, too. When will women realize that random guys will NOT "love" your kids when you let them move in? This guy even LOOKS scary. I wonder what her NEXT live-in will do to the kids?
