Trump accuses Democrats of trying to force shutdown

Source: The Hill

BY JORDAN FABIAN - 12/21/17 09:58 AM EST

President Trump on Thursday accused Democrats of trying to force a government shutdown to stunt Republicans’ momentum from their victory on taxes.

Trump’s comments come as Republican leaders struggle to cobble together the votes to pass a spending bill. Many Republicans have been clamoring for Trump to become more vocal in shutdown fight in order to calm GOP infighting over their spending plan.

Congress must approve a funding measure by Friday in order to avert a shutdown, which would be a damaging setback for Republicans following the passage of their sweeping overhaul of the nation’s tax code.

Trump and GOP lawmakers celebrated their first major legislative victory on Wednesday at the White House, but despite the president's claim, the tax bill remains unpopular, according to opinion polls.

as a pathological liar, state specific examples, and blast it every chance they get

Trump is getting unfettered access to spew whatever bullshit comes into his demented racist head, and the media for the most part doesn't call him out, and it is way past due for the Democrats to call that POS exactly what he is

and for some reason seem to refuse to buy any outlets, preferring I suppose, to spend on things that actually help people. But then we lose because our message never sees much if any light of day, leading to the non-stop reaction where we "blame ourselves" for not being "loud enough".

and I don't recall, or if it is, the Democrats actually using the word Liar when referring to trump. This isn't a question of being politically correct, it calling it out for what it is without mincing words

when they are "invited" onto someone else's media outlet, there is a huge selection process that appears to go on to bring on the most wimpy (perhaps outside of Sanders who is a regular of late but he has a schtick that he rarely strays from so is considered "benign" ).

The question might be - have they ever invited people like Ted Lieu on? There is probably a reason why. I know they have had Maxine on but once she gets going during that particular one time, there tends to be a huge gap between that and the next time they bring her on again.... and there is a reason why.

they will bring the most mouthy, verbal-vomituous RWer on and hosts, like Chris Hayes, will sit there and let them go on and on spewing their bullshit. That's pretty much why I stopped watching those shows. Without more hosts like Joy and guests (although non-elected officials) like Angela Rye or April Ryan, these are nothing but shows reflective of the owners and their producers who control the content - conservative.

criticizing the draconian garbage he is trying to push, but despite all the lies trump has spewed out, even before he took office, I do not believe I have heard any of them call him a liar.

Yes, calling someone a liar is not normally the way professionals interact with each other, but we are dealing with a situation entirely different, and words like liar really need to be used to call people's attention to what is happening

for a first term POTUS. Give the people credit for paying attention. Look at NJ, VA, AL & all the special elections we've been winning in state legislatures that haven't been friendly to Democrats in the past. Some good things are happening, but calling Trump a liar might feel good to the activist types, but there are just as many of us who don't want to see the party become what we despise.

We don't have the WH. We don't have control of Congress, and we don't own the media. But I'd like to express my kudos to those Democrats that get up everyday, and fight the good fight just to be slammed for not doing enough, not saying the right thing, or using someone else's language. But that's JMHO.

Johnson's widow was disgraceful, and the criticism directed toward trump by that behavior was characterized by him and his deplorable team was that criticism was people playing politics. Not only did he not apologize, but went on to attack Sgt. Johnson's widow.

In fact, has he ever apologized for anything, and has he ever been called out on that?

The Republican Party just rammed the worst, most deleterious, most utterly disastrous tax bill, a piece of legislation that paints a huge red target on the back of everyone with an R behind his name, through Congress...and they can’t write a measly one-page CR that continues funding at current levels? Has anyone told Trump his party is more worthless than a three-dollar bill?
