McConnell: Entitlement reform not on 2018 Senate agenda
Source: The Hill

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) says entitlement reform is not on the agenda in 2018, despite what Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and senior Trump administration officials say.
McConnell, speaking at an event sponsored by Axios on Thursday, said the lack of Democratic support for entitlement reform makes it highly unlikely that it will move through the Senate in an election year.
I think the Democrats are not going to be interested in entitlement reform so I would not expect to see that on the agenda, McConnell said.
He said that bipartisan immigration and banking-reform legislation are much more likely to move in 2018.
What the Democrats are willing to do is important because in the Senate, with rare exceptions like the tax bill, weve got to have Democratic involvement, McConnell said.

(9,426 posts)retreated into his shell. I would not believe any republican even with one hand on their bible. Lyin' Ryan is getting set to retire after making plenty of $$$$ on getting this tax bill passed. Once he collects his bounty for entitlements, he will leave. There is STILL Russian money involved with the gop, right? There are three supremely UGLY men in that photo, inside and out.

(11,519 posts)And let's quit will calling Social Security and Medicare "ENTITLEMENTS" - they're fucking INSURANCE which we've all paid into from the day we drew our first paycheck.
It's already pretty apparent that repubs are happily running up the debt with an eye toward using Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid to pay for their deeds.

(35,309 posts)I know people who've never paid into Social Security. They aren't entitled to receive Social Security payments when they retire.
I know people who received it who never paid into it. They were entitled to receive Social Security benefits because of their connection to somebody who was legally entitled.
The word "entitle" has been around for centuries. The derogatory meaning has been around for decades, no more. The legal code uses the older, standard, well-established meaning, not the more recent colloquial meaning.

(5,801 posts)mcturdle's tactic--lull voters into a false sense of complacency before the 2018 midterms + use kook bros and other billionaire money to maintain congressional majorities, then WHAMMO.
Of course they are coming after Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, even beyond the cuts that already will be triggered by the GOPee bank heist. It only remains to be seen how they will do it.

(809 posts)Is it because I payed into SS and Medicare for 45years, I am entitled to my benefits? ? Of course, they need the senior vote so they wouldnt attempt it before 2018. The blue wave threatens to drown them. They are also realizing that they need to keep the brown people here to attend church as whites are now a minority in attendance. They can only accomplish their agenda through the alliance with religion. WTF is banking reform? Giving Putin access to our bank accounts?

(1,123 posts)unlike Putz Ryan who can't restrain himself. To pursue entitlement "reforms" before the 2018 mid-terms would be sheer lunacy for them, and McTurtle would never permit such as it would seriously endanger their control of one or both houses. He and his acolytes will be saving all their most dastardly deeds for 2019.

(1,123 posts)the messaging battle to the RepubliCONS. Along with "entitlements" are other such resounding successes as "gun control", "pro-life" and, most recently, "tax reform".

(23,099 posts)I hope he's telling the truth but wouldn't bet a penny on it. I think what will happen is the deficit will balloon with greatly declining tax revenues and then they will be "forced" to address it by stealing workers $$. It "wasn't planned" but needed will be the lie

(14,491 posts)Of coarse he's lying, although the big pitch for welfare elimination will come after federal revenues fall drastically.
The GOP will spend much of 2018 running fake conspiracy investigations (already announced) to pick up votes and helping Koch design their media blitz.
You can bet there's a lie and a devious plan behind anything McConnell says. It's always been that way with him.

(27,804 posts)The Liar-in-Chief said during the GOP debates:
"I'm the only candidate who's promised not to cut Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid."
According to NPR:
McConnell wants 2018 to be a year of bipartisanship, saying he is "not interested" in using budget rules to allow Republicans to cut entitlements without consultation with Democrats.
Why did he use budget rules to allow Senate Republicans to ram through the massive tax scam "without consultation with the Democrats"?
