Israel Rejects 'Preposterous' UN Decision on Jerusalem, Thanks Trump for Unequivocal Support

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu blasts the world body as a 'theater of the absurd,' but promises the vote won't have an actual impact on reality in Jerusalem
Noa Landau and Haaretz Dec 21, 2017 7:45 PM
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that "Israel completely rejects this preposterous resolution," responding minutes after the UN General Assembly overwhelmingly voted in favor of a resolution that rejected U.S. President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as the Israeli capital.
In a major diplomatic blow to Israel and Trump, the UN General Assembly passed a resolution rejecting the American recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, with 128 member states voting in favor of the resolution and a mere nine voting against it.
"Jerusalem is our capital, always was and always will be. But I do appreciate the fact that a growing number of countries refuse to participate in this theater of the absurd," Netanyahu charged in a live Facebook video.
Israeli officials noted that some of those countries are those Netnayahu had visited. Israel also thanked Trump for his unequivocal stance on Jerusalem. Israel also thanked those who voted together with Israel and "for truth."

(21,635 posts)Don't be shocked if an Isreali embassy somewhere is unexpectedly "bombed" (from the inside) sometime in the near future.
No one in the media will be allowed to point out that the damage radiates outward from the building and other inconsistencies, they'll miraculously 'find' an intact Iranian passport in the rubble, and Cheeto will start bloviating about a "cruel, dastardly act by Iran that will not go unpunished - that I can tell you."

(58,724 posts)It's usually everyone vs. US, Israel, Micronesia, Marshall Islands with maybe a handful abstaining.
This is actually probably the lowest number of yes votes on a UNGA resolution with respect to Israel of the last 30 years.

(17 posts)The fact is Jerusalem is the capitol of Israel.
Israel decided that 67 years ago.
The whole world is being hypocritical over this since everyone has consulates in Jerusalem.
Everyone can decry that this impedes a peace negotiation or somehow makes a 2 state solution impossible.
The fact is there will never be a peace solution between Israel and the Palestinians.
There will also never be a 2 state solution and it is folly to think there ever will be.
Our best course of action would be to stay completely the hell out of the middle east.

The arrogance of Israeli and American regimes is rejected by the entire world. They too have decided....Israel is wrong.

(3,813 posts)And even after losing, Israel came to the table in good faith multiple times. I watched the 2000 Camp David events shepherded by Clinton on live TV, thinking "finally, there's a chance for peace." And then Arafat walked away from a deal that would have given the Palestinians 91% of the West Bank and the vast majority of East Jerusalem. That was a loser move if there ever was one, and a big waste of a Democratic President's time and efforts.

(3,363 posts)That being said, moving the embassy there is pointless. You can view it as the capital without moving the embassy. Tel Aviv is the most popular city in Israel and the safest for Americans. Makes more sense to leave it there.
Second, delicate politics are involved with this and Trump is the last person I want making decisions about Israel, causing more strife and mayhem for the people in the area.
And third, I'm so fed up with the Evangelical/right-wing/GOP obsession with Israel. They couldn't give two dumps about us Jews. Most of them are probably anti-semitic. The only reason they're so involved with Israel, is that it's part of their Armageddon/Rapture end times scenario that they desperately want to take place. They think the more they support Israel, the closer the ends times get.
I'm tired of the GOP co-opting the Jewish homeland and Jewish people for their own evil agenda. I'm also sick of conservative Jews buying into the nonsense.

(23,946 posts)Still have to wait for the building of that third Temple. This silly move by Shitler is being viewed as one step closer to the Rapture by the religiously brainwashed.
But building another Temple? Is that even on the drawing board?
