McConnell privately saying GOP could lose House and Senate in 2018: report

Source: The Hill

BY JACQUELINE THOMSEN - 12/22/17 07:36 AM EST

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has been privately saying that Republicans could lose both the House and Senate in the 2018 elections, according to a Politico report.

Politico reported Thursday that McConnell has been sharing the concerns privately as GOP leaders worry about losing control of Congress in the midterms.

Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel also presented a report to chief of staff John Kelly showing how the GOP had lost favor with female voters, according to Politico. And Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) has also told donors that he’s afraid that GOP lawmakers in swing districts could retire, opening up key House seats to Democrats.

A string of Republican lawmakers have already announced their retirements, and the GOP only holds a one-seat majority in the Senate following Sen.-elect Doug Jones' upset win in Alabama.

All things being equal, Dems voting like their lives depended on it (because it’s true) would be a bloodbath. But we must all keep in mind every day that we’re battling the most corrupt political party this country has ever endured. Gerrymandering, voter suppression, Crosscheck, hackable voting machines, Russian meddling, Fox News and Breitbart...the list goes on with ways the GOP will pad every race with votes. We must overcome all of that to barely eke out a win.

Which is why I think we'll have to get ready for step 2: Racists/militia freaks going for physical voter intimidation

The conditions are ripe for it. Most police unions don't like Democratic constituencies (IE minorities). What with our "overwhelming" demands that they stop being allowed to investigate themselves and that they wear body cams so they can't write police reports where they're angels. If there's a situation where the local Nazis or RW militia fanatics are causing a problem in Dem precincts, I don't see the local police running out to stop it.

After all, it's not in the best interests of police for Dems to win anything. We tend to want that pesky police accountability stuff while the Trumpists would gladly make it legal for police to shoot anyone who rubbed them the wrong way.

Nor do I see Jeff "the only rights that matter are States' Rights (to be assholes to minorities)" Sessions. dispatching Federal law enforcement since red states in the South are still butthurt about the Feds forcing desegration on them.

Remember this equation:

Racists=Stupid
Armed Racists=Dangerous but mostly to themselves
Armed Racists with Tacit or Active Approval of Police= A major threat that should be met in kind.

Remember Black Wall Street or the time Ruby Bridges had to be escorted by troops from DC because the local cops intended to let her die.

In all likelihood, if there weren't multiple levels of dirty tricks going on by the GOP, the win margins would have been much bigger. That's what we have to overcome in order to eke out those wins. We have to keep that in mind. Every election, every precinct, every ballot box has to have a wave of Dem voters even if it seems safe. Because with all that's stacked against us, all it takes is a few Dems staying home to give us what happened in 2016.
