McConnell: Senate GOP will pursue more bipartisan agenda in 2018
Source: The Hill
BY ALEXANDER BOLTON - 12/22/17 12:24 PM EST
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Friday said he expects 2018 to be a more bipartisan year compared to 2017, a year when Republicans confirmed Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch and passed tax reform with party-line votes.
One thing you can say about this year is that it was pretty partisan, McConnell told reporters at a year-end press conference. McConnell said next year will be different.
He said with a smaller, one-seat GOP majority next year, it will be difficult pass legislation without Democratic support. Sen.-elect Doug Jones (D-Ala.) will be sworn in in the new year.
There are areas, I think, where we can get bipartisan agreement, McConnell said, pointing to a bill passed by the Senate Banking Committee earlier this year with Democratic support that would roll back part of the 2010 Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.

McConnell: Entitlement reform would have to be bipartisan
BY JESSIE HELLMANN - 12/22/17 12:45 PM EST
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) downplayed the likelihood of achieving entitlement reform in 2018.
"The sensitivity of entitlements is such that you almost have to have a bipartisan agreement in order to achieve a result," McConnell said at a press conference Friday.
"The only time weve been able to do that is on a bipartisan basis and it was a long time ago." McConnell's comments come as Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) eyes entitlement reform for next year.
"I don't think the health care issue is done," Ryan said in an interview with The Weekly Standard.

(43,172 posts)their entire agenda and all their actions stink of illegitimacy and in a right world would be declared illegal and defunct
And if we had a media arm of the DNC it would be screaming to high heaven about it, just like Fox would if the rolls were reversed. This has always been about greed and power.
McConnell is a snake, which isn't being kind to snakes.

(9,426 posts)when President Obama was in office! Yeah, right. The day of the first inauguration the top gop members vowed to BLOCK everything he tried to do. He vowed to "Make Obama a one-term president" I hope he gets the same co-operation from the democratic members. They will roll over him and the rest of the gop traitors. Once the democrats are in charge, it should be full steam ahead with THEIR agenda, screw the gop. Take a leaf out of their book.

(10,098 posts)If this god awful tax scam bill wouldn't have been so horrendous, many Democrats would have voted for reduced corporate taxes and more focus on middle class instead of the massive redistribution to the ruling class it was. After all, they are all sponsored by the same corporate interests.

(2,062 posts)That had to be his statement. McConnell know he's reign of terror is about to come to an end. He needs to have voters think he is doing everything great for the country. He believes if he spouts bullshit about bipartisanship now, the right wing terror machine will not lose the senate or house...good luck shit brains, I hope this democratic strong machine steamrolls you and your fucking asswipe congress right into your rocking chairs where I hope you shit yourself and no one come to help you.
