McConnell: Senate GOP will pursue more bipartisan agenda in 2018

Source: The Hill

BY ALEXANDER BOLTON - 12/22/17 12:24 PM EST

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Friday said he expects 2018 to be a more bipartisan year compared to 2017, a year when Republicans confirmed Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch and passed tax reform with party-line votes.

“One thing you can say about this year is that it was pretty partisan,” McConnell told reporters at a year-end press conference. McConnell said next year will be different.

He said with a smaller, one-seat GOP majority next year, it will be difficult pass legislation without Democratic support. Sen.-elect Doug Jones (D-Ala.) will be sworn in in the new year.

“There are areas, I think, where we can get bipartisan agreement,” McConnell said, pointing to a bill passed by the Senate Banking Committee earlier this year with Democratic support that would roll back part of the 2010 Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.

McConnell: Entitlement reform would have to be bipartisan

BY JESSIE HELLMANN - 12/22/17 12:45 PM EST

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) downplayed the likelihood of achieving entitlement reform in 2018.

"The sensitivity of entitlements is such that you almost have to have a bipartisan agreement in order to achieve a result," McConnell said at a press conference Friday.

"The only time we’ve been able to do that is on a bipartisan basis and it was a long time ago." McConnell's comments come as Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) eyes entitlement reform for next year.

"I don't think the health care issue is done," Ryan said in an interview with The Weekly Standard.

He vowed to "Make Obama a one-term president" I hope he gets the same co-operation from the democratic members. They will roll over him and the rest of the gop traitors. Once the democrats are in charge, it should be full steam ahead with THEIR agenda, screw the gop. Take a leaf out of their book.

If this god awful tax scam bill wouldn't have been so horrendous, many Democrats would have voted for reduced corporate taxes and more focus on middle class instead of the massive redistribution to the ruling class it was. After all, they are all sponsored by the same corporate interests.
