Prosecutors Said to Seek Kushner Records From Deutsche Bank

Federal prosecutors in Brooklyn have sought bank records about entities associated with the family company of Jared Kushner, President Trumps son-in-law and senior adviser, according to four people briefed on the matter.
In recent weeks, prosecutors from the United States attorneys office in the Eastern District of New York subpoenaed records from Deutsche Bank, the giant German financial institution that has lent hundreds of millions of dollars to the Kushner family real estate business.
Mr. Kushner, who was the Kushner Companies chief executive until January, still owns part of the business after selling some of his stake. The family businesses include many legal entities. It is not clear which records were sought by prosecutors, what they are seeking to learn from them or to what degree, if any, they directly involve Mr. Kushner.
There is no indication that the subpoena is related to the investigation being conducted by Robert S. Mueller III, the special counsel, into Russian meddling in the 2016 United States presidential election. Three prosecutors on Mr. Muellers team previously worked at the United States attorneys office in Brooklyn, one as recently as this year. Federal prosecutors around the country typically check with Justice Department headquarters when their investigations may overlap.

(14,751 posts)muehler wouldn't go through the brooklyn usda office to issue subpoena's. If the brooklyn office is gathering evidence, they may be trying to claim supremacy over new york state efforts to prosecute similar crimes. They could then bury them or give less than a slap on the wrist and nys couldn't proceed.
The ny office is especially susceptible since trump fired several usda's there and put hand picked replacements in.

The Eastern District's acting US-A, the one involved here, Bridget Rohde, has worked there for 18 years, on either side of a stint as a partner at a law firm. I wouldn't expect a career prosecutor to be willing to sabotage an investigation for the Trumps.
None of the reports on this so far know what the underlying issue might be, or if it has anything to do with Mueller's work. These fellas seem to have enough bad habits to keep more than one DA in court.

(14,751 posts)If it isn't related to the russia investigation, obstruction of justice, or a few other caveats he may have just pitched it over to the brooklyn office. I think trump hit the manhattan office the hardest, so there may still be a few honest usda's in brooklyn he can trust.
