Flake: Trump rallies 'spasms of a dying party'

Source: The Hill

BY BRETT SAMUELS - 12/24/17 09:38 AM EST

Retiring Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) on Sunday said the crowds at rallies for President Trump and other Republicans reflect "spasms of a dying party," adding that the GOP will have to formulate a governing agenda to reach more voters.

"When you look at some of the audiences cheering for Republicans, sometimes, you look out there and you say, 'those are the spasms of a dying party,' " Flake said on ABC's "This Week."

"When you look at the lack of diversity, sometimes, and it depends on where you are, obviously, but by and large, we're appealing to older white men and there are just a limited number of them, and anger and resentment are not a governing philosophy," he continued.

Flake, who has announced he will not seek reelection in 2018, has been a frequent critic of Trump, earning the president's ire on Twitter. The Arizona senator refused to back Republican Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore, calling him unfit for office. He wrote a $100 check to Democrat Doug Jones in the race, writing "Country over Party" in the memo line.

You can’t say this stuff, but constantly vote for Trump’s agenda. That makes him look credible and legit.

Imagining Trump is behind what's going on is somewhat like throwing rocks at a goat staked out (there! gotcha!) to attract tigers instead of looking out for the tigers.

Flake is a libertarian. Maybe read about libertarian personality and ideology. (The real thing, not the typical votes who grabbed onto the label because it was trendy.) They and other ultraconservative rightists are implacably opposed to almost all mandatory taxes and regulations. Authoritarian rightists the same, plus new and stronger laws to control us and guard their power. The hugely powerful religious right is also allied with them.

Absolutely on purpose, the tax bill, like the budget bill, is designed to start crippling the function of all the big programs Americans have paid into for decades, but that's only a start. In 2018 the tigers are expected to move on SS and Medicare (and others) with intent to take them down.

On the floor of the Senate, the Treasury secretary, Steven Mnuchin, observed the proceedings, as senators mingled. The Republican senators Susan Collins of Maine and Jeff Flake of Arizona laughed as they spoke to each other while protesters implored them to change their minds and vote down the legislation.

GOP Leaders Celebrate Decisive Win Over Americans
Wednesday 12:09pm

WASHINGTON—In the wake of the $1.5 trillion tax bill’s historic passage in both the House and the Senate, GOP leaders reportedly celebrated Wednesday their decisive win over everyday American citizens. “This is a monumental victory not only for us, but for everyone struggling under the reign of the average American,” said Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell, adding that party leaders made a promise to “take a stand against ordinary U.S. citizens,” before cracking open a bottle of champagne and proudly declaring that “today, we delivered.” “Of course, the fight against the people of this country is not yet over. We won this battle, but the war is still to come. However, if we carry on with the same vigor demonstrated today in our widely opposed tax overhaul, I know that we will prevail over Americans time and time again.” GOP leaders also expressed confidence that they would achieve another dominant victory over the American people as they push to close the deficit by cutting food stamp programs, Social Security, and Medicare.

to be a phony alternative after the demands they've been making on Republicans in congress bring them down.

They've done this before.

The Tea Party was conceived, funded and organized by agents for those who in the past year have become genuine, not future, but right now, plutocrats mostly controlling this current government. Rejecting their candidates to elect Trump was a genuine clueless but grassroots populist rebellion against them which failed. Because they mostly took over Trump's executive branch and most control congress.

They're working toward just plain controlling, and Flake is only one of the choices they have lined up for our next president.

Who will they run as their other candidates in the primary? Texas's Abbott? Wisconsin's Walker?
