Huckabee compares Trump to Churchill

Source: The Hill

By Jacqueline Thomsen - 12/26/17 04:43 PM EST

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) in a tweet Tuesday compared President Trump to British leader Winston Churchill.

Huckabee said he had just been to see the film “The Darkest Hour,” which dramatizes Churchill's experiences as prime minister during World War II, calling it a reminder of “what real leadership looks like.”

<snip>

Trump has shown his admiration for Churchill in the past. He returned a bust of the British leader to the Oval Office during his first day as president and hosted lawmakers for a screening of “The Darkest Hour” earlier this month.

<snip>

Social media users quickly mocked Huckabee for making the comparison.

I had to call Des Moines, IA, one day, and mused, out loud, that it was in the Central time zone so I needed to wait an hour, before I called (It was 9 eastern time). This individual informed me that I was wrong. Iowa is in the Pacific time zone. I looked at her and said 'Iowa, not Idaho' and most of Idaho is in the Mountain zone. She insisted that I was wrong because Iowa was ON THE PACIFIC COAST. I burst out laughing at her.

Admittedly, that probably wasn't smart, because from that point on, she joined forces with the only other trump* supporter, in the department, and I remained in their cross hairs until I took an early retirement. Mainly to get away from them. I had laughed at the other one when it became apparent she had no idea that Liberals and Libertarians were two totally separate political groups. I laughed loud, at that one.

I say that because despite his politics I am huge Gary Oldman fan. I've heard Limbaugh just ranting about how great this movie is. See it establishes th manliness of the right vs the weakness ( Chamberlain ) of the left - this is a central tenant of rightwing radio.

Expect self flagulating victimization if the movie is snubbed or doesn't win awards.

the right wing, such as Fred Koch and Prescott Bush, did profitable business WITH the Nazis. Right wing America was staunchly isolationist and in some cases mildly pro-Nazis. Congress gave FDR fits about aid to Britain, particularly the Republicans. It was the American left that was staunchly anti-Nazi and had it not been for preparations advocated by FDR, we would have been even more woefully unprepared than we were.

I hope somebody points that out to idiotic Rush Limbaugh. It's funny how the rightwing nuts seem to have selective blackouts on that issue. In England there were several conservatives (and some royals) who quietly sided with Hitler. This was shown in the 2nd series of "The Crown" in which the young Queen Elizabeth II has to deal with the disloyalty/treason of her uncle the Duke of Windsor.

Maybe it's the Gary thing that's confusing, plus their 'hey-days' being roughly the same period ...

Oldman however is at least 3x the actor Sinise is ... as in 'brilliant' vs 'decent' ...

The best RW actor is probably Jon Voight ... and Eastwood is very easily the best RW director. Most of the rest of the 'known RW people' in Hollywood are what I'd call 'passable' at what they do ... aside from Victoria Jackson, who's a fucking joke.

Oh,and the brilliant Dennis Hopper I believe said he voted for Bush, but he went to the dark side 'late' ...

If POTUS and FL, the Obamas weren't included in Wm. and Kate's Westminster wedding which 'outranks' Harry's marriage, why should the aims of Trump or the administration, or that of the Brit. establishment have so much weight re the inclusion, or not of the US Pres.? So far, there's no indication that the couple wants them there. So what- they'll be muscled in? jeeze.

The Obamas have been included, Harry has fairly big feet so he needs to put one down if he and M. feel strongly about them attending. The matter seems clear to me. Besides, isn't May is on the way out. Methinks this media source and maybe others could have manipulated issues in order to drive attention or controversy. But however long this tempest goes on, there's only so much sleep I'll lose over it.

Churchill's most famous speech: https://www.winstonchurchill.org/resources/speeches/1940-the-finest-hour/we-shall-fight-on-the-beaches/

I have, myself, full confidence that if all do their duty, if nothing is neglected, and if the best arrangements are made, as they are being made, we shall prove ourselves once again able to defend our Island home, to ride out the storm of war, and to outlive the menace of tyranny, if necessary for years, if necessary alone. At any rate, that is what we are going to try to do. That is the resolve of His Majesty’s Government-every man of them. That is the will of Parliament and the nation. The British Empire and the French Republic, linked together in their cause and in their need, will defend to the death their native soil, aiding each other like good comrades to the utmost of their strength. Even though large tracts of Europe and many old and famous States have fallen or may fall into the grip of the Gestapo and all the odious apparatus of Nazi rule, we shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God’s good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old.

Trump's most famous speech: http://www.bbc.com/news/election-us-2016-37595321

No, no, Nancy. No this was [inaudible] and I moved on her very heavily in fact I took her out furniture shopping. She wanted to get some furniture. I said I'll show you where they have some nice furniture. I moved on her like a bitch. I couldn't get there and she was married. Then all-of-a-sudden I see her, she's now got the big phony tits and everything. She's totally changed her look."

Yeah that's her with the gold. I better use some Tic Tacs just in case I start kissing her. You know I'm automatically attracted to beautiful... I just start kissing them. It's like a magnet. It would seem that little hands Trumpy/ersatz Churchill might have trouble with verse 18 in particular, adultry, stealing and especially bearing false witness.

(Churchill, by way of comparison with the idiot bad orange in the White House had a vocabulary significantly larger than 300 words.)

KJV:

And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
17
And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
18
He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,
19
Honor thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
20
The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?
21
Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
22
But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
23
Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.
24
And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

People who make pretensions about faith and yet know nothing at all about it, or worse, contradict it are the most obnoxious and evil people on the planet.

Up to 3 million people starved to death while British officials begged Churchill to direct food supplies to the region. He bluntly refused. He raged that it was their own fault for "breeding like rabbits". At other times, he said the plague was "merrily" culling the population.

Churchill's party duped the people of Britain into a war with Germany, because trade deals were hindered with Europe under the Nazi occupation. This of course, went beyond the original Polish-British common defence pact they had with Poland. Young British men ultimately died for this political posturing by the Tories.
