Vice President Mike Pence said Monday that the U.S. will not repeat the "shameful mistake" of ignoring the "heroic resistance of the Iranian people" as the Trump administration vows to support Iranian protesters.
Pence tweeted that the multi-day protests against the rule of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and President Hassan Rouhani give Americans "hope and faith" for change in Tehran.
"As long as @RealDonaldTrump is POTUS and I am VP, the United States of America will not repeat the shameful mistake of our past when others stood by and ignored the heroic resistance of the Iranian people as they fought against their brutal regime," Pence tweeted.
"The bold and growing resistance of the Iranian people today gives hope and faith to all who struggle for freedom and against tyranny. We must not and we will not let them down," he added in a second tweet.

Graham rips Iranian president for calling protests nothing
BY BRETT SAMUELS - 01/01/18 01:05 PM EST
Sen. Lindsey Graham on Monday ripped the Iranian president for downplaying the significance of ongoing civilian protests.

Graham urged President Trump and all those who love freedom to support the protests and punish their oppressors to the fullest extent possible.

At least ten people were killed Sunday after protesters took to the streets for a fourth-consecutive day throughout the country to protest economic hardships and alleged government corruption.
Some protesters in the country's capital reportedly chanted "death to Rouhani" and "death to the dictator," referring apparently to Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

(15,805 posts)that opposes the Trump Administration? Americans also share the "hope and faith" that we can change the politics of Washington DC.
Will Pence speak up and defend the Women's Movement who are fighting against the brutal Trump regime? Will he praise "The bold and growing resistance of the American people for giving hope and faith to all who struggle for freedom and against tyranny?"
"We must not and we will not let them down," Pence vows to the Iranians, a promise that should begin here, in his own country.

(92,409 posts)deal was supposed to open economic channels into Iran, but based on what the republicans, and the current assholes in charge have done, those economic channels were not opened, and actually more sanctions were slapped on Iran.
These are the same group of imbeciles in the U.S. who decided that invading Iraq based on a lie was a good thing.
I suspect a good number of Iranians believe the Iranian government gave too much away with that nuclear agreement because it didn't help their economic situation in no small part due to the subtle sabotaging of it by the republicans.
I wouldn't be surprised if the U.S. clandestinely tries to involve itself again in the overthrow of the government of Iran, that brought the Shah to power, and if that actually is attempted, the blow back will be far worse then when the hostages were taken, after the Shah was expelled.
