THERE IS EVIDENCE TRUMP CAMPAIGN COMMITTED 'CRIMES,' SAYS DEMOCRAT ON HOUSE INTELLIGENCE COMMITTEE
BY GRAHAM LANKTREE ON 1/4/18 AT 9:11 AM
The House Intelligence Committee has heard evidence during testimony in the ongoing Russia investigation that suggests crimes have been committed by members of the Trump administration, one the committees Democratic members said Wednesday.
When asked whether he has heard testimony that revealed evidence of crimes committed by members of the administration on MSNBCs All In , Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-TX) said yes.
I think many Americans, if they were able to listen to the testimony of Glenn Simpson from Fusion GPS would be very troubled about a lot of the things they hear, Castro said.
I can't talk about what I heard in the interview, but what I can tell you is that my impression, after sitting through those hours of that interview is that the president should be concerned about issues of money laundering, of collusion, and of obstruction of justice, Castro added. That's my impression, not only from hearing that witness, but also many of the other witnesses that have come before the committee.

Social Security and Medicare are next on their hit list.

(6,022 posts)and i don't believe there's a thing Congress can do about that, other than try to call them liars or try and undercut their trustworthiness. I was wondering if a FOIA request can be submitted by the ACLU, or something along those lines.

(1,817 posts)That what Trump accuses others of, he himself has said or done himself?
He is like a young child blaming others for his actions or mistakes. Trying to avoid the consequences. I've raised 3 kids. Very familiar with this tactic!

(347 posts)I retired from the Army in 1995 with 30 years of service. During two of my last three tours of duty, I was in a Pentagon job with near-constant contact with Congress.
There was one issue on which Democrats and Republicans on the Senate Armed Services Committee differed -- Dems, who were the majority, did not want an investigation; minority Repubs did. So -- the chief minority member on the committee simply held his own hearings, published his own (bullshit) report, and went his merry way. I know -- I had to testify a couple of times and on one occasion, threw out of my Pentagon office a member of the minority staff.
Why don't the minority Dems simply tell the majority Publicans to go fuck themselves and hold their own minority hearings?
Either the rules have changed or the Democratic members don't have the balls. I vote for the latter.

(8,138 posts)Do they automatically have subpoena power? Or does Paul Ryan have to approve that? Or the Committee head?
As long as they feel progress is being made the Dems may just go along to retain the claim of legitimacy. If they break away it would automatically become just a partisan dog and pony show. I don't think they can't form their own committee with any authority. All they really need to do right now is let Mueller do his job.
What good are the congressional investigations anyway? With a Special Counsel on the job, they are just there to make the public aware of as much as possible.

(51,609 posts)now including Feinstein, want the testimony released Glenn Simpson (Fusion GPS). Grassley and Hatch said they would release the testimony on Rachel's show last Aug 28th if Simpson's lawyers said it was OK with them. Well the lawyer did say it was OK with Simpson but it was never released. Now Hatch and Grassley say they don't want it released since it would interfere with other investigations (Castro said this is BS) and that the testimony could only be released in a 6 month window and that window is now closed. This is why we need an Independent Investigation besides Mueller. The GOP can play these games with limits but an Ind. Investigation would be fully funded and staffed, fairly quick, transparent and info would be released to the public, and it couldn't be derailed by either party/NON partisan. We must have this since the GOP plays dirty and our country will have to recover from this at some point and if we are to avoid this happening again in our future. New laws and amendments may be written and all the facts need to be clear.
