Republicans authorize sharing of classified report on FBI, DOJ officials' conduct
Source: Politico
Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee have authorized their colleagues to access a highly classified report that they say details their concerns with the conduct of top FBI and Justice Department officials, as well as the agencies handling of a controversial surveillance program.
We have concerns FISA concerns that all members of the body should know, said Rep. Mike Conaway (R-Texas), a member of the committee, referring to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. Some of President Donald Trumps allies in the House have argued that the program was inappropriately used to surveil a foreign policy aide to the Trump campaign.
Democrats derided the release of the report as part of an attempt to discredit senior leaders of the agencies leading investigations into President Donald Trumps ties to Russia and whether any of his associates aided Russias attempt to influence the 2016 election.
[T]he Majority voted today on a party-line basis to grant House Members access to a profoundly misleading set of talking points drafted by Republican staff attacking the FBI and its handling of the investigation, Rep. Adam Schiff, the committees top Democrat, said in a statement. Rife with factual inaccuracies and referencing highly classified materials that most of Republican Intelligence Committee members were forced to acknowledge they had never read, this is meant only to give Republican House members a distorted view of the FBI.

I posted in GD about this "FISA memo" -- as it's being described in RW media:
https://www.democraticunderground.com/100210117015
I hadn't seen this Politico story then, though I'd been watching the RW hysteria on Twitter and in RW media, so until I saw a tweet about the memo from CNN's Manu Raju (which is what my GD post was about) I hadn't realized this super-secret memo was just another attempt by Devin Nunes to muddy the waters and try to help Trump. The hyperbole about the memo made it sound as if the GOP had discovered a detailed 4-page plan by the Obama admin and Hillary Clinton to destroy Trump. No hint in the alarmist rhetoric I was reading that this was just more garbage from Nunes.

They just don't know for whom yet. When those sealed indictments are made public there will be calls for Trump to resign. Republicans in Congress (any not thrown out on their ear by then) will have to make the decision whether or not to impeach. This smoke screen is intended to give cover to those Republicans. This is why all the retirements are going down. The sealed indictments are likely to be made public at some point later this year as Mueller's investigation proceeds. Just in time for the mid-terms. It's going to be bloody.

They found an entry point and now they are breeding within the host.

(19,204 posts)Republicans have become the guardians of Americans' private information? For years they nurtured the very intrusions they now rail against. Why? Because the government surveillance is now focusing on many of them, and they don't like it one little bit. It was perfectly fine when Democrats, Independents, and anyone else they didn't like were being watched, but watch Republicans? That's sacrilegious!
Now they're going to attempt to destroy the organization responsible for this surveillance, and replace it with an organization that will be loyal to only themselves. This organization will become their law enforcement tool to keep undesirable factions (Democrats, Independents etc.) who might threaten their iron grip control on power. The GOP's very own Waffen SS.
This shit has to be stopped in it's tracks.

(1,285 posts)They hear Mueller's foot steps behind them and are attempting to lessen the blow. Release of more indictments must be near, and probably include Republicans outside of the Administration.
I just wonder what is taking Mueller so long to take down these people.
